Hey Everyone,

I've got a Model 15 that was given to me and isn't striking the primers hard enough to fire. I replaced the main spring, but that hasn't helped. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Theodoric

Make certain that the strain screw is tight against the spring and the frame and that there is nothing impeding the fall of the hammer (dried lube or "crud") If you're shooting factory loads you should be okay, if their reloads maybe small rifle primers could have been used???? After that I'm not sure where you should look.

The usual. Check headspace, end shake, damaged firing pin, action clean and properly lubed. Check for gun butcher "improvements" like a shortened strain screw.
And check it with commercial ammo if you're using reloads. Check primer seating on reloads.

Shortened strain screw sounds interesting. I was told the previous owner worked the gun over to make faster for some sort of competition.

Thanks,

Theodoric

Measure the strain screw - a new one s/be aprox. .613 length. This is for square butt frames. If your length is .575 or less, you will probably have light hits.

Well, it isn't the strain screw, measures the same as my Model 66 .593.
