I have never been super organized. Today I was ready to walk into my local gun shop without doing any research, didn't think to look for a box and no idea what I would get out of it dollar wise. Then I found an old thread.

I don't know the correct way to link to it. So cut-paste
---------
I was allready to take my 686-6 Plus up to my local gun shop to put it on sale with the 5 other revolvers of mine on sale.

I didn't know what I would be asking. Well this thread showed up and I am glad I found it.

686-6 2.5" Plus Performance Center unfluted barrel. SKU 170346

I was going about things backwards. I'll start a new thread but sure glad I found this one.

-----------------------------------------------------

I have the original box with all the goodies still there.

Now what to do?

Having shop sell it is the easy way but it will cost me 20% and who knows if they will get top dollar?

I am thinking selling on an online auction will get me the best price.

btw the serial number is CVE8***

I am going to attempt to post a picture or two. I am using my Windows Laptop but the photos are on my pain in the butt iPhone 16 Pro Max. (I needed that extra button on the of the phone like I need an arm growing out of my elbow)

I would try selling on this (S&W) forum first. You may do a lot better without the 20% hit on the sale.

This is want I want, feedback. One thought I had is am I likely to bet best price here on this uncommon snubnose?

I will post my run of the mill things on here. I am perfectly fine with that with average guns.... 36, 60, 28s, 19s and t
and some of the better stuff also the Model 27-2s.

What do members think about the different online sites? Just stick with the big #!

gr8,

Your PC 686-6 isn't a particularly rare gun, since it's in current production and can be bought from any online gun dealer. S&W lists it for $1329 msrp, but most stores sell it for $100 less. The lowest price I see on GB right now is $1185 new. If yours is used then you'll need to adjust for condition.

I sell occasionally on GB but usually only HTF (hard to find) items where I know the right buyer will pay top dollar. Selling online you will pay the auction house a percentage, and then shipping, and i've found that some FFLs charge for the transfer and handing it to the Post Office, while others don't.

For more common and current-production guns I've just consigned them at a local store.

We have a lot of collectors that may need to fill a gap in a collection with a nice example of a certain model. Box and tools is a big plus in that case. Here, you are getting a nationwide audience with a focused interest as opposed to just a local market of whoever may happen by.

I'd start with looking at COMPLETED auctions for the same gun on Gunbroker to get a good "feel" for what it's worth.

Then list it here accordingly.

If it doesn't sell you can always lower the price. If you have to lower it too much for you to be comfortable with the price to sell it here, Gunbroker is always another option.

JMO.

I would sell here first.

The other thing is how much? I am reasonable and I want to move guns because I am not getting younger. Now my brother asks for ridiculously high prices looking for a "rich guy" to buy. He has guns on consignment for months.

What is that saying about not including pictures?

There was a great article about this particular model. It was titled, "One Wicked Wheelgun".

The single action trigger pull is 3.5 pounds and the double action a smooth 10 pounds.

I will want to find a way to reference the article correctly if I can. Any tips?
