I'm a S&W fan. Hope to learn from you nice folk.

I do have a S&W question that I asked on the general gun forum.

I have a Model 37; 38 spec Chief's Airweight. 2 in barrel.Serial number 705253. It's in a the box, brand new condition, blued.

Can anyone tell me the date of manufacture and the approximate worth on this revolver.

I am sure someone will pipe in shortly with the (estimated) year. If you are very serious about documenting your new puppy - you can Request a Factory Letter which will research the date of manufacture, first recorded shipment destination, etc.

FYI: you can email S&W with the serial number, they are happy to tell you the manufacture date.

If it an early J frame, it should be around 1968 to 1969, but if there is "J" in front it would be 1979 to 1980. This is according to the S&W Catalog 3rd ed.
