Actually, that info is outdated. The factory is sending all requests (and checks)back to the senders at this time. No new requests will be accepted before Oct. 15 of this year. The cost will be $50 per letter.

Wow $50 that is a big increase(Almost doubled)....well everything goes up. $30 I could do $50 would get me shot by wife....(would have some history then)

What do you get for the $50? Is it worth it?
thanks

It doesnt appear to be official at this time. The S&W website still lists 30 dollars and a 8-12 week turnaround time.

Don thanks........Does anyone know what year my victory was made? V 5042XX my guess is very late 1943 to mid 1944

This will substantially reduce Roy's workload- as was prior concern in much earlier posts.

Plus, turnaround time will be increased also with the diminished number of letters.

I don't see it as problem.

"th"...Hope you got the information you needed. I don't want to hijack the thread by questioning this "letter" rumor, but some comments have me wondering.

Smith and Wesson deposited a $30 check of mine on 7-10-08. I sent it in on 7-1-08. I assume this will get me a letter for that price. I'm not a frequent "letterer" but I also have one in limbo now that I sent on 4-18-08. I check the mailbox with high hopes each day.

When I receive my letters, I will have 3 total from Mr. Jinks. If they raise the cost of the letter, I feel that is going to slightly raise the value of a lettered gun. Also, I don't blame Smith & Wesson for raising the prices. Demand is higher than the "supply".

Let me know if you have solid evidence of the increase.

It should, but the cut-off date is supposed to be anything received after July 16th.
Roy is currently on vacation and won't be back until sometine in August , so he won't even be working on the 700 letter backlog until then.

I will let you know, I don't (IMO) see how they cannot honor the $30 charge with it still up on their website. Again (IMO) it does not take long to pull it off their website. Why is it still up on their Website?I want to be hopeful that I will get the letter for $30 but I do understand that it is a lot of work and I do appreciate S&W offering this service.

I am also hoping someone will help me date this pistol as close as they can if cannot get the letter.

I don't know who you are but this information is supposed to be confidential and not public information as of yet. If you are a S&WCA member I can assure you that you just did the
wrong thing.
