There must be some technique for loading .223 magazines that I am not aware of. It takes me forever to load a 30-round magazine. I see various speedloaders advertised, but I have never seen one in use. Any suggestions for easier loading?

Being an AR newbie, I don't know much...YET...but I know I like stripper clips and loading spoons. Fast and cheap.

I picked up a Maglula for my AR's because I find the one for pistols to be indispensable. Unless you're loading 30rd mags, doing it by hand almost as easy - it just isn't as fast.
Strippers are the fastest, but you have to fill the strippers unless you buy your ammo already on them.

I like the StripLULA. It can be used with or without stripper clips.
I gather stripper clips from the air base and buy ammo in bulk. Then I'll sit down in front of a good movie and load stripper clips. Yeah, I'm a geek that way.

I use the StripLULA as well, although I haven't mastered the "quick unload" like the guy does in the video on the GI Mag. I must be doing it wrong.

I struggled with that as well, but I've figured it out.
Hold the mag in one hand, bullets facing down. Insert the little tab along side the top round and press on the round below it. The idea is to release the tension from the rounds below the top round. The top round will fall out. Then just snap the tab over to the other side. The next round will fall out.
It takes a little practice, but it can be fast. I prefer unloading the mags through the barrel.
The Strip LuLA is faster loading, but the other is faster at unloading until you get the technique down down on the Strip LuLA.

This. Been using one for my pistols for over a year. Just bought one for my AR mags a few weeks ago. Why did I wait so freakin' long?!?!

I like the stripper clip compatible device very compact and easy to use. I can and have done it by hand just takes time and the last two or three get a bit tough.
There is another much bulkier product out there which allows you to put an entire 50 round box of ammo into the "hopper" and load 5 at time in a repeating manner.
There are also other loaders that can take up to 30 at a time that lay flat and some homemade version that look interesting but unless you are running a gun rental range or in a military outfit where you need to load hundreds of mags a day I'm not sure they are really much better than the far more compact and portable versions.

I have them all, LULA loader and unloader, Strip LULA, NcStar AR15Mag Loader/Unloader, ProMag RD USGI Magazine Loader, Spoon and strippers. For stripper clips the Strip LULA works great and like stated you can still load bulk ammo. I don't know about using it to unload as If I don't shoot the mag I just leave them loaded. My preference of all is the LULA. I can sit with a box of bulk ammo and load my magazines while watching TV and not have to look at what I'm doing. You know what direction the bullet is when you pick it up, and I have used it to unload a magazine just to see how it would work and it works great. They all work great on my 100 round BETA C-mag and all my Magpul 30 round mags. For me fingers are not a option as I can load 700 rounds of magazines with no sore thumb.

Using stripper clips its easy, even for a raw beginner like me, to load 10 rounds at the time. Takes me 8-10 seconds to load a 30 round P-mag with nothing but a loading spoon.
