I entered the "Name that Holster" Contest thread, that Ray @ Lobo Leather posted. As soon as I saw the first prototype design pics he posted in the Contest, I knew the holster was a "Combat Classic".
Ray was generous to offer a free holster to the winner, and to my surprise one of my suggested names of Combat Classic won.
I'm no stranger to Lobo Leather. I have a few Threeperson's design holsters for K & N frame revolvers. I've used the K frame Threepersons holster for a few years, mainly as a woods carry holster during the winter hunting months, and in Steel Plate Matches at my Club. To say the holster has seen some usage is an understatement. But despite all the time on my belt it still looks like new.
The new Combat Classic holster arrived in a plastic pouch with breakin directions provided. (Basically saying to place the revolver in the holster and wear it for a day or so. If it's still too tight, then place the revolver in a plastic bag and let it set overnight). My holster is fine right out of the bag, nice and snug but the revolver draws smoothly.
For my holster, I chose to have it made for my S&W M19 with a 2.5" barrel. This gun has always been a favorite of mine and shoots very well. I chose to have the holster with a Cordovan finish, hammer shield, reinforced mouth, and a 1.5" belt loop tunnel with neutral cant (straight drop).
The finished product arrived, and exceeded my expectations. It's a rugged construction, and solid little holster for sure. The double leather construction leaves the interior of the holster with the smoother skin side of the 2nd layer hide against the gun finish (which is something I like). The holster is what I would refer to as a minimalist design. Only the leather you need and nothing else. The stitching is tight and uniform, and the hand boning is both attractive & functional. The little S&W 19 snubby fits tightly with no side play or rocking, yet draws smoothly.
The holster design uses a loop tunnel on the back of the holster. The "loop" is a separate piece of leather which is actually a large piece that makes up part of the hammer shield and also the mouth reinforcement area. This piece of leather is perimeter stitched to ensure a rock solid belt loop. To be honest, I was a little concerned that this would not be a solid holster on the belt with just that loop- But, I was wrong about that. The holster sits on the belt and there is no movement what so ever, and the weight of the gun rides very comfortably. I used a stiff gunbelt, and the combination really is a great platform to comfortably carry a pistol that has some weight to it.
I used the holster all day, and that model 19 really was comfortable to carry. The M19 is quite a little chunk of heavy steel and it rode very well all day. I can only assume that a Combat Classic holster for a polymer frame pistol would be an outstanding carry holster.
All in all, the Combat Classic is a very attractive and functional hand made holster. I recommend you check out Ray's products, I'm sure you'll be impressed also.
