My wife was killed in an on duty incident 26 years ago tomorrow. It was long and hard with two small kids who are now grown with their own children. I'm glad you made it through. God speed your recovery.

Hardly a day goes by where I don't wonder, "how would my family be coping today without a husband and father...?" It crushes me every time.

Thank you for taking time to drop in here and give us some clarification on what happened and the good news about your progress in recovery. In a world where more and more it seems like everybody just makes up a course of action as they go along, you are a perfect example of why training, pre-planning and determination are always going to be the tools that advance what is good in society.

Probably my favorite verse right now is Romans 13:4 (NIV)
"For the one in authority is God's servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for rulers do not bear the sword for no reason. They are God's servants, agents of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer."
I say it's the one passage in scripture that explains to the Christian cop that it is OK to injure or take a life when the laws of the land dictate that it's justified.
