Local gun auction

I attended a local gun auction yesterday. I was pleased to see quite a few S&W's and most all in very nice condition. This was a 431 item auction and it was listed on Proxibid and there were quite a few Proxibid bidders. I was somewhat surprised at the conservative prices being being bid and there were some attractive prices resulting.

Here's a list of a few examples that seemed to be well worth the money.

I think nearly all these prices were below market and quite a few people got some excellent values.

What was the buyer's premium? You have to add 15-20% to those numbers to get near the real cost.

I used to go to most of these consignment auctions at a couple of the
larger auction galleries locally but I quit several years ago. Proxibid buyers
run the prices up and the add on fees get ridiculous. Add sales tax, 15%
buyers premium and another $20-$25 to do the paperwork. It seems to
me that bidders get caught up in the competition and only look at the
bid price. Easy credit adds to the problem. Swipe a card and go. If every
buyer had to count out cash on the spot it would serve as a reality check
and help keep some folks out of financial trouble.

The buyers premium for "On Line" bidders is 20%, but no premium for on site bidders, and no sales tax. There is a flat $15 FFL transfer fee. Even with the 20% fee for on line bidders, quite a few were good buys, I bought the 986 Pro Series.

No buyer's premium in the room? That's a surprise. I've seen it reduced for attendance, but never removed altogether.

Local auctions around here do not charge a buyer's premium or use Proxibid. I've seen guns go way over market value and also sell for way under. I've been on both ends of it as a buyer.

If this auction had been in Sterling CO, those prices would be easily double and some would be triple.

I think gun prices in general are pretty low. It's probably my fault, since I'm getting ready to sell a bunch of them.
