Local show 15 minutes from the house today opens at 1PM. Got there about 12:45 and it was already packed. They must have been letting people in all morning. Small show (about 40 tables) that usually has the same local folks every time. Must be a slow weekend coming up as all the local and regional sharks were in attendance. Stayed about an hour and purchased a set of K frame PC Magnas for $20. A very nice LNIB Stainless Walther PPK 380 from the S&W run of them for $500. A leather cheek pad for the M1D I bought last month (a whole other story as it walked in to the KCI show and made it clear to the back of the room before I got a shot at it). Was leaving and in walks a guy with a little smith and a plastic bag with stocks in it. The Model 50 is from early in the 1973 run, stocks number to the gun, honest wear, probably 90% or better. Would have liked it to be nicer but it is what it is. I have only seen two model 50s in the past 10 years. The stocks in the bag ended up being a set of new gun take off N Frame Football Targets and a custom set for a 1911. Bought the stocks and the Model 50 and went home. I hope all the folks on the other threads that do not enjoy gun shows continue to stay home as I sure have a good time attending.

I had a pre model 50 made in the mid to late 50's, and have seen one other model 50. Not too many around. Nice buy

Where's my copy of the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson? What's a model 50? Sounds like you had a very successful day at a gun show and came home with some new toys to play with!

A Chiefs Special Target. Some made as pre-model stamped guns, some as model 50s and some as model 36s, in 2 and 3" lengths.

S&W Model 50

What a Nice little 38Spl. I really like the
Adjustable Rear Sight. From the looks of
your picture, it is in Excellent Condition.

Thank you for Sharing a nice Story and
Pictures. Hopefully the Price didn't set you
to far back.

Very nice, something else to add to my want list.

toddimusnimski: Yes he knew exactly what he had. After a short negotiation we came to an agreement on a price agreeable to both of us for the model 50 and the two sets of stocks. As I said I have seen two model 50s in the past ten years and missed purchasing the first one by about three feet as that is a close to it as I got before someone else bought it. As soon as that one came out of the pouch the money was already coming out of the pocket. At gun shows for quality/rare S&W Handguns I have found that you better buy it when you first see it if you want it as it will not be there when you get finished thinking about it and go back.

I bought a NIB lettered Model 50 from Jaquas years ago. It was originally shipped to Hogdons' supply in Shawnee Kansas. A very rare and special little revolver. There was a very nice fella here on the forum who actually used to track and catalog these and maybe still does.

Your pics aren't all that sharp on my monitor, but I don't see even the level of wear you suggest... it looks nicer than that to me. Congratulations on finding a near unicorn of a special gun. Already has some wear? No problem... you can shoot it without guilt about putting the first wear on it. It's a real find. :D
