I would like to know if selling a S&W
revolver with key lock removed(Lock Delete installed)
is something I should not do.
Does it put me at risk for altering a safety .
Thanks

The S&W lock is not a safety per se, it is a safe storage device. That does not mean that a plaintiff's attorney or a psycho DA would not try to make something out of it if you were in a shooting situation. It would also be a good idea to retain the parts so it could be returned to "normal" were you to sell it. In a state where "safe storage" is a legal mandate that may become an issue if you don't have a safe and the weapon is stolen or used by a rug rat that just snatched it up.

I had an FFL for over 20 years. Unless things have changed, I think there is some fine print somewhere that says you need this license to make any modification to a firearm

Return it to original specs and include lock delete parts with it…….. although I did just see a model 65 on GB with lock delete for sale. Also had bobbed hammer

Well, opinions are like something else, everyone has one! I would personally return it to original condition if you still have the parts.

Well, we are never going to agree on this. So it is OK to saw off the barrels of a double bbl shotgun and shorten the stock because it is yours?
Not sure I would want to be the defendant in that case

Yes. It is. As long as you keep it within the legal limitations/parameters of the NFA.

Saw them to another legal length, or make them into an illegal NFA weapon? An FFL can't do the latter, either.

Yes, it is legal to remove your mag safety, swap your safety lever for a decock only version, rebarrel your revolver, put new grips on, do a trigger job and install new sights on your firearm. I'm not sure why an FFL would be so unfamiliar with gun regulations.

I guess I stand corrected after some research. As for the FFL, I gave it up 30 years ago, and regulations constantly change

I think there's a slight bit of a difference between working on a gun and breaking federal laws. But who knows.

Not to argue, but if that is the case, most of us would be guilty by changing sights, triggers, hammers etc and those modifications would affect the function of the gun while lock removal would not affect the function, just prevent it from being locked
