I think that someone here posted about it. What do you think of putting some loctite behind the flag, against the frame, letting it dry, and expecting it to prevent the flag from shifting under heavy recoil?

I'm thinking about doing this to my 329 NG, as yet it is unfired. My 386 NG has worked just fine with no problem regarding the lock.

Just remove the flag. Put it back when you sell the gun.
Notice my little carry gun is modified. See the little hole....

Putting Loctite into the action of an S&W, no matter how dry it may be before the gun is reassembled, seems a bit far afield. The type of parts you mention are not the type that Loctite is meant to secure, and I would not want to take a chance that bits of the dried Loctite might come loose, finding their way into places you would not want them to be.

If you don't like/trust the lock, probably the best course is to remove the stud that locks the hammer in place, leaving all other parts alone - or at least that seems to be the consensus of opinion around here.

Not only do your risk gumming up the lockwork, I can also tell you that it won't work. Locktite requires a VERY tight fit without any oxygen in order to funtion properly.

One time when I was putting a Chevy 350 together I decided to experiment and see if locktite could provide some additional insurance against a spun rod bearing. Put the crank in place and torqued the caps, slid in the pistons, locktited the bearings in place and torqued them down. Went back the next day and pulled one rod cap and the bearing just fell out. Spent the next 2 hours pulling the engine apart and cleaning up the residue. Sometimes an idea that sounds good flat won't work as you hoped.

If you are going to try to glue it in place, heck use JB Weld. Why screw around? (just take it out; you can find the instructions in a number of places if you look)

the alternative is:leave it alone...i shoot my pc 500 mag.on a regular basis...hunt with it...and there is plenty of recoil...i also shoot 460 and 500 mag.snubs...all with locks...no lock issue whatsoever
