I went to a 3 day precision scoped rifle class at the Sig Sauer Academy a week ago with my M&P 10. It was the 'intro' class so we shot at 100, 200 and 300 yard (with 3 shots at 750 yards for fun!). I was shooting federal match 167 grain ammo. Happy to say the beast performed great. Was able to hit a 12" x 18" steel target at 300 with no problem. I have a lot of work to do but even with my faults the rifle is capable of sub 1.5 moa accuracy. Planning on going to the advanced class and the 'reach for 1000' class as well. Will let everyone know how it goes.

So do you have a stock rifle or did you free float the barrel and do other things to it?

About 4.5 ft holdover at 500, I don't want to know what 750 is!!!!

Yea, well I do, add another ten feet and you are in!

Shooting long range is fun for kicks.
Not to brag but i am a proud member of the "Varmint Hunters"
1000 yard club. To qualify i had to make a confirmed kill at or over
1000 yards. Had to be witnessed by another member, had to be
measured, "mine was with a surveyors wheel" after ranging with
my Leica geovid rangefinder.
It was a prairie dog at 1080 measured yards.
I was shooting a Remington 700 in .300 UltraMag caliber.
My buddy tried with his .308 but was unable to connect that day.
Oh, it took me 17 rounds before i was able to smack one of those
darned things out that far and my shoulder hurt that evening.

have a magpul stock, a muzzle brake, and a new rail system but the barrel is stock and not floated... I have a leupold vx-6 3-18 scope.. the experience did motivate me to order a new trigger (which will be in tomorrow!) one of the things that the instructor, David Hinkell, did was to measure everything on the rifle including trigger pull... the stock trigger on mine is just over 6lbs pull...

I put a set of j P Enterprises 3.5 spring kit in mine and the pull is really good. Not my RRA 2 stage good but much better....No issues with military ammo, my reloads, or factory.

Jay,

If your thinking of 1K yds, move to the 175 gr GMM load. They will make your life far easier as you move towards 1K. FAR more stable at the longer ranges than the 168's.

The longest I have stretched my M&P10 so far is 500yds hitting 10" steel plates once I got dialed in I pretty much couldn't miss. I was shooting Sierra 168gr MK and Hornady 168gr A-Max.

My M&P10 specs are:

Free floated barrel with Midwest Industries 12" Keymod rail with YHM .750 low profile gas-block.
Geissele two stage Hi-Speed National Match - Match Rifle Trigger.
Magpul MOE-K2 grip.
Magpul ACS-L™ Carbine Stock – Mil-Spec Model
Scope Vortex Viper PST 4-16 MIL-MIL FFP
Talley Tactical 6 screw rings.

.308 is a frustrating proposal at 1000 yards... IMHO

Mine is a happy camper at 600 thru 800 but starts to fall apart after that... (Or maybe I do)...

Lucky! Mine averages 6 lbs. 13 oz. Only have 390 rounds through it so far but a better trigger sure calls to me LOL.
