I'm so lucky I gassed up our three main vehicles on Thursday, before all this craziness started. And gas went up 40 cents per gallon on Friday. Idiots panicking and blocking major roads trying to get to gas pumps and filling up entire parking lots. One Kroger close to me, was so packed with gas Hortors that you couldn't buy groceries there if you needed to.

The local news showed local gas stations price gouging, this morning on the news. Some stations are charging up to double. And it iS against the law to price gouge in our state. But I'd bet 90% of the people don't care, as long as they got they're gas.

They've been saying for days, Please NOT to panic. What's the first thing everybody does? They panicked and hort gas. Idiots!

Now many many stations are completely out of gas. I don't know how it's been in other areas of Tennessee or any other states affected by the gas line rupture? But it's absolutely NUTZ around here!!

This is one reason why I keep my vehicles full or close to full, at all times. Unlike my daughter who thinks running around on a 1/4 of a tank at all times is OK. She called me yesterday and asked "what am I going to do"? I told her I had 5 gallons of PURE in a racing container, that I keep for my lawnmower and weedeater and blower, she could have if she needed it. I haven't heard from her this morning? She's probably sitting in a long line somewhere? Just plain goofy! She met me the other day to drop off a 4Runner I just bought at my mechanic to get brakes done and I looked over and her gas light was on. I said stop, I'll buy you some gas, she said "no I'm fine", so when she dropped me off at the house, I pitched her $11 (that's all the small bills I had) in her console and told her to get her some gas. It's not the money, she makes damn good money, it's just her mentality? I wouldn't drive across the street with a gas light on? But that's me.

So how is it in your neck of the woods?

I must have missed something.

I drove from Denver to ABQ and back this weekend. No lines, and gas was under two bucks a gallon in ABQ.

Sorry - just reread your post and noticed the reference to the gas pipeline rupture. No effect way out here so far.

As of yesterday, gas up 40 cents this week. Local news this morning showed local gas stations out of gas, and some stations have doubled the prices.
Some Governors have declared states-of-emergency.

At least the 250,000 gallon pipeline spill happened next to an unused mine settling pond and was contained.

From what I understand it's Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia only? They said awhile ago, the governors of these three states have declared a state of emergency?? I know the governor of Tennessee has for sure!

I'm sorry, I didn't clarify that in my original post. I thought everybody had heard. It's been all over the national news for days, about the gas line rupture in Alabama.

From what I have seen on the news this will be very temporary in nature. Of course the people go crazy and start forming lines and hording!

I went threw that big gas crises back in the early 70s and that one was long and nasty at times. I was lucky I worked at my buddies garage PT and got all the gas my wife and I needed.

FWIW many people including me believe that early 70s problem was well thought out and staged due to the collusion of big oil and a bunch of government officials and big shot politicians!

The graphic I saw on the news showed the branch of the Colonial Pipeline that ruptured, extended up through SC, NC and into southern VA.

It runs just south of me, through Simpsonville, SC.

Well they neglected to tell the stations I'm NC cause our prices are shooting up also......just another excuse to rip us off.

Never even heard about it out here near the left coast. But I avoid the sycophantic leftist national media like the plague that they are.
Should be a fairly short-lived crisis, hope it gets better for you folks in TN, AL, GA, SC, NC, etc. in short order.

The hope to have it fixed within a week.

South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley issued an executive order because of the emergency in Georgia.

The order cites that an emergency exists in South Carolina because of the Georgia state of emergency. She directs the South Carolina Department of Transportation, the Department of Public Safety and the State Transit Police to suspend the federal rules and regulations that limit the hours operators of commercial vehicles may drive in order to ensure the uninterrupted supply of gasoline.

Its not up to Kentucky. We went to Louisville yesterday and then took the scenic route home. Saw no lines, and in a bunch of stations it was $1.99 and $2.03. We filled up Friday and didn't need to fill up again. I don't mind when its cheap.

It's not too bad around Hotlanta yet. I've seen several QTs completely out. Some stations have jacked the price about .75/gallon. No lines there yet. :D More common has been a spike of 20-30 cents/gallon. I did see one station with lines.

I filled up both cars before it got bad. We'll see in another day or two I guess. We drive less than in previous years. We have enough for a week or two.

We have similar, self fulfilling craziness here. We get vast majority of our gasoline via ship from gulf refineries.
Put a hurricane in the gulf. Shipping stops. People freak, buy up everything in sight. So combination of storm purchases, and no shipping, voila, self fulfilling gas shortage.
Just had a friend alter his vacation travel plans because of this "shortage".

I've been hearing about the gas line craziness.

It's been nice enough that I drove my MG to work almost every day this past week. It's pretty easy on gas(4 cylinder 1.8L, light car, manual trans) but I don't trust the gas gauge that much(a hard corner can cause a 1/4 tank swing, as can a steep hill) so usually fill when it starts showing 1/2 tank or so. Since it was supposed to rain the day after I filled it and I thought I wouldn't be driving it, I didn't fill it to the filler neck as the manual says to do. That was at $2.09 in Louisville

I filled my other car last weekend, and hadn't driven it basically all week before going to Cincinatti on Saturday. I managed to get premium for $2.50/gal($1.99 on the sign for regular) so it's full. I doubt I've used more than a gallon since refilling, but if it's still cheap tomorrow I may top it up. I might fill a 5 gallon also if we're still around $2.00 Otherwise, I'll drive the MG most of this coming week and ride out the tide of craziness that's sure to come.

Again, if it looks like prices are on the way up, I may grab a few cans full-not out of fear of not being able to get it, but because I'm cheap and I certainly WILL use it in a short amount of time. I just have to make sure there's no 100LL still in a can I use for the Lincoln :)

It's Colonial Line 1. It links Houston to NY Harbor and points in between. NYH is the most of the demand. Truck and marine transport will make up the difference in the mean time. I suspect gasoline cargoes have already been diverted and the truck racks in houston area are jam packed. This is an east coast issue. It should actually make mid western gas less expensive if it goes on long enough. Colonial says they should be up and running again next week. We shall see.

Gas prices have been going down here...I live about 30 miles SE of Dallas. I just checked GasBuddy, and at my favorite station it's $1.69 as of this morning.

Same here. Gas is still ""low"" at $1.85/gallon.

I remember those gas-lines and long wait.

Remember the Red Flag-Green Flag-Yellow Flag signals as to when a station had gas? And 5-gallon purchase limits? And even/odd days based on the last digit of your license plate numbers? It was crazy. During that period I lived in a semi-rural area about 15 miles west of Fort Worth, and the few nearby gas stations always seemed to have gas in their storage tanks so I didn't suffer much. But inside Fort Worth it was insane for awhile. So strange that something like that could happen in Texas.
