I am currently shooting Hornady 105 AMAX with 45.5 grains of IMR 7828 with COAL of 2.795" at reportedly 3000 fps. This is all "stock" info from Reloader's Nest.

The round shoots about 1/3" at 100 and carries really well out to 400. Can repeatedly hit clay pidgeons hanging from a string.

I've been reading some threads over on Sniper's Hide about the 243 winning the world 1000 or something with 115 VLD bullets. My gun , is a Remington 700 VLS only has a 9 1/8 to 1 twist, so it won't stabilize that big bullet. Some of the posters talk about getting up to 3500 fps out of regular Winchester brass with WLR primers from their guns.

I'm just curious if anyone here has gotten anything close to that and what your recipe was/is.

Thanks in advance for any input.

I can't anywhere near 3500 with my fav. .... the 75 gr. Hornady HP .... much less get screamers with a heavy for caliber like you mentioned.

Winchester brass may have a wee bit more space or not ..... and the Winchester rifle primers .... though good seem to me to have softer cups and show pressure signs sooner than even Federals.

If one wants to scream with a 6mm class bullet, it seems to me that a 6mm/284 or 6mm-06 is in order.

And they still follow conventional physics just like "everybody else".

But from your report on your rifle, you seem to be doing just fine ... in fact very fine.

Three 44s

I load a 70 gr Nosler BT (for Prairie Dogs), with 42.0 gr Varget, seated to 2.725" and Fed 210M primers. It Chrono's at 3716 fps out of my Savage (26" barrel, 9 1/2" twist). It consistently shoots under .400" at 100 and holds well out to 500. My eye's aren't good enough for much further any longer. I have become very fond of Varget powder, and load it in 22-250 and .308 as well as .243.

I also "prep" my cases, (Winchester), by trimming always to minimum, uniform the primer pockets, and once fire-formed, only neck size.

light bullets

you guys are shooting lighter bullets than I do. I shoot 85', 100's and 105's for hunting. In NW FL nothing roams the woods that I can't anchor with a well placed 243.

I've got a Winchester Model 70 Feather Weight and a Remington Model 7 that both shoot 3/8" at 100 with the same load (Sierra 100 BTSP and 35.0/IMR 3031, seated to 2.620) They hold up pretty good out to 300 or 350, but loose it pretty quickly after that. The VLS is a bear to tote, but sure shoots well and almost no recoil with all it's weight.

I was just trying to see if anyone was getting even 3200+ with a 105 or 107. Gonna try some RL-19 as soon as Midway delivers my bullets (back ordered for weeks).

thanks for your replies.

Shoot straight or shoot often!
