One glaring omission from my modest collection has been a long tube. I had a beautiful 48-4 w/6" barrel that I'd purchased from Geronimo Jim, but sold it with this one in mind.

It's a 1978 model and will see its first range action (ever) on Sunday. I envision some rabbit hunting and long(er) range plinking in its future.

I'd love seeing some more of these if you got one!

I love seeing all these long tubes! They look great guys, my 48-4 has only 4 inch barrel but would jump on a 8 inch if I find one and add it. Thanks again to 22hipowe,r his grips look far better on my pre war 22 outdoorsman than they do on a 48, hope he found some nice grips for that beautiful model 48!

Beautiful piece!
Not a fan of barrels > 5 inches for my purposes, but they do have their place. To my mind the .22 rimfires and .44 mag benefit from the long tube when used for hunting or long distance work because of the longer sight radius and extra velocity. YMMV

My 48-4... looks like a handgun, but shoots like a rifle.

It's a shame that they are such a pain in the rump to take into the field, finding a suitable holster is a challenge... I've been contemplating a chest holster.

Just put it in your pocket :)

Nice! I was stuck between a 14 and a 48. Didn't have a 22 MRF so I went that route.

There's not much action in big, heavy .38 Specials unless they're H-Ds. I got it essentially brand new in the box for less than 8 bills.

Lots of people want the 17 and 48 long tubes. I already have 2 .22LR wheelguns (a 4" 34-1 and 6" K-22) so a .22WMR seems needed.

48-2

Here is my contribution to the thread, a 48-2 that I bought in '95. it came with target hammer, trigger and presentation grips and case. I am not sure if the case is correct as I have never seen another cased 48. I haven't shot it much, but when I did it shot very well.
