LOOK OUT RABBITS: a new Beagle in town(new pic)

AHHHROOOOOOOO!!

That’s what I was thinking—last night was a big full moon. (I think the danged rain will be back tonight) so I hope Lee and that beautiful pup went out and did some howling! Although I will admit that one looks more like a couch/biscuit hunter rather than a moon howler/rabbit chaser.

One of my best friend’s dad growing up had a big pack of beagles—10 or 20 at various times (he was always accumulating, trading, etc)—and we lived to rabbit hunt, especially the big swamp rabbits. He shot an old Browning Auto 5 and I have never seen a better shot with a shotgun.

He had a dedicated pack for deer too and it still makes my heart race thinking of the bucks busting out of the brush with a pack of beagles hot on their trail! I never could hit one, I was so in awe and always shaking so bad with the buck fever. He was deadly with the 30-30 too so the bucks never got away. I assure you no one on the most expensive African Safari had more fun than we did in the river bottoms.

Best dog I ever had, and probably the last one, was a beagle I named "Yo-Yo." When you set her down and walked away, she was right behind you. Later on I realized when she was on a trail, (she trailed around our back yard all day long) her bark was a YO YO..YO..YO...So it worked out both ways.

Smartest dog I ever saw too. I used say you could give directions like you would a person. "Go down the hall...go into the bedroom...look in third drawer of the dresser...She'd look at you as if to say...OK...OK...got it. I'm not going to claim she'd do it. That whole "no opposable thumb" thing you know...but she knew what you meant. ;)

Good looking one you got there.
