IMO, i believe a law like this may affect some of our veterans. As some veterans suffer from PTSD. I'm not sure if PTSD would fall into a mental illness category, but if it does then it would surely affect a bunch of great guys/gals. Those guys/gals are more qualified to handle firearms than the average citizens. So i dont see how it would be fair to them, if this was to affect those who suffer from PTSD or even other things similar.
I could be wrong about it. But IMO, it wouldnt be fair for it to come down to something like this. Especially if it affects those who have risked their lives for such a freedom.
