I see people are wondering what S&W 500 magnum recoil really feels like. I was curious too but could not find this gun to try it so I purchased it. It was nothing like what you read on the net. Some say it becomes safe queen but this gun made my 1911 safe queen. 350 gr are lot of fun to shoot, then I wanted to see what kind of maximum recoil this gun could produce. I tried 700 grain absolutely maximum load possible and fired it from 4" model. You can see it for yourself what can this revolver do. S&W 500 magnum, 700 grain max load. - YouTube

According to your post you bought a gun just to sample the recoil?? After seeing what it is like are you keeping it?

I think I'd shoot that thing one cartridge at a time ! I know the back of that gun range might be able to withstand the impact - but what about the range roof. My range would not let you shoot it.
Good luck with it. It looks like a very powerful weapon....

Honestly I have 2 other very nice guns and since I purchased this revolver I have not fired my other 1911 and it has been now 5 month. If S&W made more variations in 4 or 5 inch models (something fancy looking) I would get them too. I lost all interest to shoot any other guns.

Keep in mine that 330 - 350 grain bullets are very pleasant to shoot and extremely accurate.

I've got a 4 inch 500, box of 700gr bullets, and a canister of Lil Gun, but have too much fun shooting my 44's and maybe a little too much common sense to get my 500 out to the range. yep, call me a sissy with my itty bitty 44's.
