A 3906 which is pretty hefty, and my lighter weight 3913.
+1 on the 3913.

Don't be too quick to dismiss the 3906 just because of the "ugly" square trigger guard. I used to feel the same way, then I got one, and I guess it kind of grows on you. (I used to think Centennial revolvers were ugly too, now a 640 is my carry gun). Since you mentioned that your wife wanted to get into shooting, the 3906 would be perfect for her. The single stack grip would probably fit her hands well, and the weight of the pistol makes recoil very low. My daughter shoots my 3906 extremely well.

If you get a chance to check out a 6906 take it. I love mine & its probably my favorite of all my pistols. Its light, compact, has all kinds of magazines available, & is a soft shooter. It carries well, & in fact was my EDC till I got my 40 Shield. I recommend it highly!

I recently acquired a 5906 with a round trigger guard at GM for a great price-best deal I've ever found on a pistol, in fact. I love the gun, but couldnt imagine carrying it concealed-pretty heavy. Now if I could just stumble upon an old single stack...I am rarely in the right place at the right time!

I would say the 3906 is a little big for a single stack 9MM, go with the 3913. You will be very happy with that gun, it is a lot like you 39, but with the 3rd Gen improvements.

Why not just stick with your 39?

I agree. The 3904/06 was only produced for a couple of years because it really had no niche to fill. A full size frame, but with an 8 or 9 magazine capacity. The 3913/14 came with an 8 round magazine and was lighter and easier to conceal.

I have a 3904, but really only because I wanted to have one. It's a beautifully made pistol, but that's no different than any other 3rd generation pistol.
