Im looking at a blued 27-2 5" this week, the man selling it says he bought it new in the mid 70's and never fired it. Saw a picture of it its hard to tell condition from the pic but it has a presentation box tools and docs. I bought the same gun nib with shipping sleeve for $650 a few years ago. This guy wants $900. I think if its truly nib I will buy it.

Not a bad price

The only 5" I've seen down here in a long time was at a gun show a couple of months ago, and it was priced at $995. It was very similar to yours with box and goodies, and was in excellent condition, almost NIB. I could have bought it for $950 OTD...but I passed thinking it was too pricey for a 27. I've been looking for a 5" for quite a long time, and I'd jump on it if I saw it now. I think the $900 (maybe you can make a counter offer) is a fair price these days. As some Forum members are saying- the Model 27 is becoming the new Python!

I think it is a fair price too for a NIB 5 inch with all the goodies. As Hawg Rider said, you don't see them often in that condition. I think that its value will just continue to rise!

I think it is WAY too high...give me the contact info of the owner and I'll set him straight. ;)

Again, I'm glad I have my guns because I couldn't afford to buy them now. When I die my wife will be rich after the auction.

I been saying any N Frame in 99% condition for under $1,000 is a buy. A new m27-2 5" barrel unfired in the box is a steal at $900.

If it's in unfired, 100% nib condition the online value for the m27-2 with the 5" barrel to me it would be double that at least.

Jump on it. Still not sure just check the online prices vs conditions.

My vote would be to buy it if it is in excellent condition as described.

I just started buying a few s&w at the start of this upswing. I've said this before that you will be happy with what you have as the prices go higher. You would probably still buy them at the higher cost but few and far between. I cherish and enjoy the few I have for now.

We don't get much bang for our buck these days. We may pay a tad more for the top shelf in quality. I seen a ruger older security six sell for $750 what does that tell us? It was a GF-32 model that was never in the catalog. It was made for the bi-centennial year (1976) but it was newer one without the made in the 200th year of American liberty. Where does that put the prices of the 1976 gun with the inscription?
I'm thinking around $1,000+ as it becomes more rare. If these prices are climbing were does that leave the s&w's?

I tried buying it. I know which one you're talking about. The seller isn't so great at communication. Good luck with it, I hope you get. I gave up.

FWIW, I also picked one up fours years ago for NIB minus shipping carton for $650.

I think $900 is pretty fair given they way prices are moving lately.

Sounds like a great price @ $ 900 , as described . I would think $ 1,200 would be closer to fair market value (and possibly more if it is indeed unfired with box, papers ,tools) Last year I paid $ 1,050 for a less desirable 8 3/8" 27-2 nickel finish.

Since I use completed/sold GB auctions as a price guide, a minty 27-2 five inch , boxed and with orginal wood is worth 1000.00 all day long. To a person who wants one.

I keep reading stories how people bought stuff for 1/2 price. Probably because seller was late on rent, car payment or simply did not care.

I had plenty of those deals too.

But those are not going prices. We just get lucky sometimes. :)

1000.00 or less is just fine for that 5 inch 27-2

Why would anyone store a gun in a presentation box for 35 years . Looked at the "nib" 27 and guess what, the gun was kept in the presentation box in his basement. *** such a beautiful 5" 27-2 , 3 T's target hammer, target trigger, and fitted target grips I assume as the last 3 digits of the serial # is on both panels. The pitting is very light and the seller didn't even notice until I pointed it out, but still a fine 1975 27-2 with a semi decent box. I soaked it in break free to try and clean it up, if anyone has some suggestions as a method to bring down the pitting I would appreciate any advise. I wound up getting it for $500.

Let's agree the deals we get were we save $$ we kind of break even when we pay the average going rate. It basically all comes out even in the wash.
It's condition, vs price, vs how many of them do we see, vs how bad we want it.

For decades I never seen one n frame in 357mag locally for sale used. Not one colt. I did see one ruger. So used one's are rare here.

You got it for a good price, but unfortunately deep enough pitting (i.e., metal damage) is not fixable short of a complete refinish.

I polished the small effected area and Ren waxed the entire gun looks pretty good. If I can figure out how to Ill post pics.

What scares me about a gun like that is that I could(would) not shoot it. My greatest enjoyment comes from going to the range, not just having one! Everyone is different. Bob
