Hi new to this forum! I was looking for some pros and cons on the m&p compact .9mm for my wife! Thanks

It gets continuously repeated on these forums - Do Not pick a gun for your wife. Take her to several larger gun stores and let her pick the pistol she wants. You will both be happier in the long run.

That being said, the last pistol my wife bought was an M&P9C, but she also owns a 4" Model 28, a 4" Model 19, and a 3913. She's not a typical female type gunowner.

I've only had mine for a few weeks now. Haven't gotten to the range yet, but I like the way it fits my hand, and the fact that it holds 12+1 rds, and comes with 2 mags. I don't have large hands and it fits mine well, plus it comes with 3 different "back grips" to adjust for hand size. I trust the S&W name for building a quality firearm. That was my main incentive for going with this one, though it's a bit pricier than some other 9mm compacts. Let your wife hold it and listen to her feedback. Let her try a few different makes/models and let her decide which one she's the most comfortable with. You asked about "cons". The only thing I noticed (and this is my first 9mm semi-auto) is the magazine spring is VERY stiff... I thought it was a bit more difficult to load than I thought it should be, but that will probably loosen up a bit and get easier with time (I hope!).

I should have added I did have her hold several compacts and she said the m&p 9mmc was the one she said she liked! Was just looking for pros and cons on the this m&p!

Well, I'd stick with the 9mm, instead of the .9mm.

But other than that, I think it's the perfect gun for her/you. Fairly small, accurate, easy to use, fittable with the grip options to different size hands, can take 17 round mags from a full size, if concealment is not a consideration. Great gun, I love mine.

My apologies for making the wrong assumption. "What handgun should I buy My wife?" is a common topic on these forums.

After my wife bought hers, I liked it so much that I bought my own. The only negatives I have noticed is that both of us find handling is much better with the finger extension magazine. You will need an UpLula to fully load any mags.

I've had my 9c for a little over a couple weeks now and love it! As mentioned already I prefer shooting with the pinky extension magazine but I wouldn't necessarily call that a con. I am almost as accurate with it as with my FS M&P9 Pro but that is more likely due to the fact I have not shot it as much. Magazine size is nice with 12 rounds, you can use the larger S&W magazines using an X-Grip adapter, it can be pretty easily concealed, and is serviceable just like full size M&P (which is very easy). I definitely recommend it.

i owned and carried a 9c for over a year and really liked it. totally reliable and accurate.

however:), if you are planning to carry often, you owe it to yourself to check out a shield.......prob the best concealed carry weapon on the market right now.

if this is mostly going to be a range gun, you will love it. with the X-Grip adaptors, you can use full sized 17 round magazines in the 9c.......load it on monday and shoot all week:D

Mine had to be returned due to failing to feed 115 9mm fmj ammunition. This was with American Eagle, Blazer, and UMC. It began this right out of the box. I was told to break it in 500 rounds, but that ended up being a sad waste of money as the problem continued.

The upside is that if you have a problem with the gun smith and wesson has good costumer service.

Well I went out and bought her the handgun she wanted the M&P 9c! Paid $425.00 for it new then I got talked in to buying a sig p229 equinox for myself! Damn gun shop lol can never have to many!!

The gun shop is located in Minot ND! Had to talk him down after I told him I would get the sig from him! Paid almost full price for the sig 1k for the equinox so all and all not too bad for two guns!

M&P9c

A lot of women were talked into a automatic and after they got it didnt like it,they should have had a revolver

+1 on the Shield. .95 thick (less than 1 inch) sold me on the Shield. The Shield also has a better trigger if the M&P 9 c you are looking at uses the old trigger design.

My only con on the Shield is the weapon is right handed and my wife is left handed.

If S&W made a Shield without a manual safety (which I like) I would pick one up for my wife.

When Springfield makes the XDs in a 9 mm I most likely will pick one up if I don't buy a Sig P938 first for my south paw sweet heart.

She don't have a ccw yet but we Are going to take it soon! She wanted a bedside gun so that's why she went with the M&P 9c! Some one has attempted to brake into our house twice in the past yr from my understanding the sheriffs dept has not caught any one but there is a man that was put in prison in the past few months and there has been no other reports of house or vehicle attempts! I live in a small farm community of 1500-2000 people and with the oilfield bringing in some strange people I don't wanna take the chance of it happening again since I do work in the oilfield as a lease operator at night.

Scheels? I worked up there a few times this year and would visit them when I had free time. Quite the selection of firearms in that store.

I ended up getting my 9c after returning the Sig 250 because I couldn't find a lefty paddle holster. It worked out because both my Sigma 9VE and my 9c fit in my Blackhawk Holster.

I was able to get the 9c with the Ambidextrous safety. I liked being able to reverse the mag release, but being a newbie it took me forever to do it.

I was looking at the Shield and the Sig 938 as well and I like em both.
