I have a M&P 9 full size and I am thinking of getting a shield, but I am wondering if because of such a short barrel that it may be snappy.I only ask this because I also have an XD40 compact and although I think it is a good gun it is snappy and I am just curious if the shield will be as well because of it having an even shorter barrel.Granted my XD is a 40 and the shield I am looking at is a 9mm but I am just trying to get some input from shield owners.

My shield 9 is very easy to shoot and very accurate. Not snappy like a 40 at all. Easy and quick to get back on target. If you get one you will love it!

Just a FYI a lot of the 9s have fte problems I have heard of no complaints on the 40.

I haven't heard where the 9mm's have fte issues. I have one and have even had my 10yr old daughter shooting it and we have had no issues over the last 400 rounds or so. I use everything from cheap American Eagle to expensive Gold Dot ammo.

As I said in my previous post, I've had my 10yr old daughter shooting my 9mm and she doesn't have any issues with the recoil.

I haven't shot a .40, but I do own a FS 9mm M&P and, in my opinion, I would say that the shield is comparable in terms of felt recoil.

I have a 9mm shield have at least 600 rounds of reloads thru it. The wife an I really like it shoots great no problems easy to break down.

I want to thank everyone for their input so far,and knowing it is going to be similar as my full size just made my decision so much easier.I found a good store here that has been out of the shield for a few months and they over 50 of them in the other day so I know what I doing today.I also am picking up the M&P9c with crimson trace as well.

Where did that come from? Have you even shot a 9mm Shield?

I got one of the first Shield 9mm pistolas when they were released and have well over 1,000 trouble-free rounds down range. She has eaten every brand and weight 9mm I've tried - American Eagle, Federal, Speer, Blazer Brass, Hornady, Remington, Winchester white box, etc. Same for two of my range buds and their Shield 9mm...

just got back from the store

I just got back form the gun shop, and boy am I a happy camper.I actually just got three guns.I bought the M&P9c with the crimson trace, the shield 9mm,and they had the regular M&P9 with crimson trace on sale,so I bought it as well.I also bought the crimson trace lgt760. Both of the M&P's with the crimson trace were only 679.99 each and the normal price is about $120 more.I also picked up some more frog lube for the new guns and ammo. Now no more spending for awhile unless I want to live on the couch.lol Now it is time to start cleaning them.

Holy cow,dude. :)

There are several threads on the forum that discuss issues with the shield. Do a search using "shield" and you should come across them. As one poster stated, with any new machine, there are going to be a few examples that come down the pike with issues. A crack in the casting, a bad spring, a feed ramp that wasn't polished and looks like someone took a file to it. But by the same token, there are hundreds of owners that have had a flawless experience and have not bothered to post any comments. On many forums, you will hear the horror stories but not so many stories prasing a gun.

I'm not sure why you asked if the 9mm Shield was snappy but I thought that since you have an M&P 9 "full size" my answer would have been yes, compared to what you already own there will be a noticeable difference in recoil due to handgun weight.
So now in less than three hours since your original post, you pushed a shopping cart into your LGS and came out with more guns in one day than I would buy in a decade and since one of them was a 9mm Shield, please tell us if you think the little black prince is snappy.

The Shield 9 is, as others have posted, is not snappy at all...

It does have a fairly heavy recoil spring when compared to other double stack sub & compact 9mm autos I'm used to (GLOCKs). It is heavy enough that the ladies in my house don't like working the Shield slide when compared to my other 9mm guns which have heavier slide weights and therefore lighter springs. This obviously can be a factor when manually racking the slide for shooters with less hand strength.

I bought mine almost 18 months ago and picked the Shield over the other single stack 9mm's because of the trigger. The Shield's trigger pull and reset were more similar to my full sized carry guns (GLOCK) than any other out there. By that I mean it has a lighter pull and shorter reset travel. Others I compared it to included: The Kahr PM9, Keltec PF9, and Beretta Nano. All of these had much longer trigger strokes and equally long reset travel. These aren't "bad", but much longer than I am used to with a GLOCK. My Shield has been flawless in function and gets it's share of carry time with me.

If you think the Shield will be small enough to pocket carry I would say not so much. If you have big pockets and a tight belt... maybe. (OBTW, if you pocket carry one, good for you... It is too heavy and big in my opinion). I personally will rather belt carry a gun vs pocket carry once a gun goes over one pound, and therefore the Shield is a belt carry gun for me.

The Shield fills the "slightly-lighter-and-thinner-belt-carry-9mm-auto" niche I was looking for. I think you will enjoy it!
