Just getting my feet wet in the 1911 game I just purchased a Springfield Range Officer 9mm and really like it now I see this Colt and think I need it. Anyone own one or own both the Range Officer and the Colt? Thanks.

I have the Springfield loaded in 9mm and wouldn't trade it for anything. As a matter of fact, I put 100 rounds through it today and it performed without a glitch with it's usual great accuracy. If the Colt you're looking at is a Gold Cup in .45 ACP, it's also a great pistol. I happen to have the Kimber Target II in .45 ACP and really favor it over most others. I should mentioned that I've shot a S&W 1911 (.45 ACP) from the Performance Center and it really impressed me. Welcome to the 1911 game, I know you'll enjoy it.

Colt Competition Model 9mm

I purchased the stainless version last May. Couldn't be happier. Very nice pistol, fit and finish is top notch, accuracy is right there. Price point is outstanding for what you get IMHO.

While Colt doesn't make a whole lot these days, I have found that what does come out of their Factory is really high quality! Their 1911's made now are better than I have seen regular production guns from any other manufacturer. Their fit, finish and QC is incredible and they are still Forged guns.

To me....... 1911 = Colt! :) I'd not consider another brand of 1911 as long as they don't loose their work ethic and high QC.

Except that most, if not all, have thumb safeties with annoying overtravel. According to the Colt rep, the overtravel is within factory specifications. I sold my 9mm competition because I already have a DW in 9mm. I’ve kept my Delta Elite because...it’s a Delta Elite.

My 9mm has been excellent so far. I'm really pleased. Great shooting pistol- reliable and accurate. It tags along on most range trips, and has been carried a few times.
Just out of curiosity- why another 9mm 1911? The Competition also comes in .45!

Not that you ever need a reason to buy another gun...

I've had one for about a year now. Reliable, accurate , plus fit and finish is very nice. Thought I would quickly changeout the blue G-10 stocks, but they have grown on me.

Good gun...BUY it!

Strictly ammo cost I planned on the 45 version of the Range Officer but this Colt shows up on my radar and you know the deal. Not opposed to 45 but I can buy more guns when my ammo costs are lower.
