Looking at the Marlin XT-22

It is an economy plinker and not a CZ, but is there any real reason to not buy a Marlin XT-22 (Wood Stock) for the money?

I don't know what the price is but the Ruger American Rimfires I have in .22 and .22 mag are tack drivers and have 10 and 9 rd mags respectively. might want to look at one of them first. lee

You are correct in that it's NOT a CZ - but for $200 bucks I doubt you can go wrong with the Marlin. My first gun as a kid (1965 - about $35 bucks I think) was a Marlin/Glenfield M25 which is basically the same gun as this one you are asking about. It was a very inexpensive rifle with a Birch stock, plastic trigger guard, plated pot metal trigger and bolt, and basically cheap as hell. That said, the damned thing actually had a 3 3/4 pound trigger out of the box, a smooth action and was scary accurate!!! It even came with a cheap *** "Marlin" scope which I still have brand new in the box as it is basically useless - LOL. I spent MANY a Saturday going through box after box of .22 Shorts and it would routinely print 1/2" groups at 50 feet (and I was 11 at that time).

If the NEW Marlin is anything like it's predecessor you can't go too wrong with it! This new one might be an up-grade from my Marlin - Glenfield M25 and certainly couldn't be much cheaper! Please let us know if you decide to get it.

I have one and it's fantastic. Very accurate and reliable. I have the tube fed so it holds a lot of rounds. Can shoot lr, longs, and shorts too.

I had one for a few years and loved it. It was very accurate, and I liked the feel of the trigger a lot. I don't have it anymore, as I had traded it for another gun, though I did that only because I was not shooting the XT-22 enough as compared to my other guns. I would not hesitate to buy another one at some point if I ever get back into 22 bolt actions

Probably similar to my 925M I bought 12 years back. Have heard positive reviews on em and for $200 or less they do make a fine shooter. Lately my Ruger American 22 mag carbine gets more rounds through it. Very light and lovin that 18 inch tube for deep woods hunting. The stock insert modules an be had for $20 from Ruger also.

I bought an XT22 youth model for my grandson four years ago. I have been impressed with it's accuracy. Using an inexpensive 4X scope it will consistently hold a five shot group under a dime at 25 yards. It impressed me enough that I bought a laminated stock XT22 for myself a couple of weeks ago. I haven't had a chance to take it to the range so I can't attest to it's performance just yet.

I would agree for that sum Houston. Believe it has the adj. trigger and that can help with groups. My 925M sports a 2X7 scope and can group very well with the CCI 40 grain ammo.

I had one several years ago and absolutely loved it. I was averaging 1" to 1.5 groups at 100 yards with it. Mine came with a factory mounted 3-9x32 scope on it.

I hope you have 22 WMR ammo readily available in your area. It's even harder to find than 22LR around here and when I can find it, it's rather expensive. I only have 100 rounds left and I'm saving them for my revolver. So, until I can find some more, that thing is a safe queen.

Agree with Hamster on the price of the ammo. 22 mag. Am lucky to score it for $16 per fifty and have seen it as high as $22 per box. Still makes a great varmint cartridge at reasonable ranges.
