I'm kind of a holster-aholic. My favorite leather holster for the "N"-frame Smith & Wesson is the Milt Sparks 200AW. I just ordered one for my 4-inch "K"-frame guns. I like both this holster and the El Paso Saddlery Tom Threepersons holsters for general carry. The 200AW sits a bit higher on the belt, covers the trigger guard, and has a stiff projection that protects your coat from the sights. In a lined model, it is almost twice as expensive as the Tom Threepersons holster. Is it worth twice as much? I guess that is a matter of opinion. I love both holsters because they are both custom jobs made the way I wanted them to my specifications. Right now Milt Sparks has about a six-month waiting period, while El-Paso Saddlery has a six or seven week waiting period.
Another really excellent general purpose holster is the belt or paddle holster made by Blade-Tech. The Blade-Tech holsters are about $65.00 or $70.00 and only take a week or two to get for most handguns. Like the Milt Sparks 200AW, the handgun is retained by friction that can be increased by tightening screws to the point where you can't get the gun out, then loosened to whatever tension you want. The Blade-Tech holsters have the advantage of being made of Kydex, or some similar type plastic, that is impervious to water. I live in Southeast Alaska where it rains all the time, so this is very important to me. I love the way the handgun actually "clicks" into place when you holster it into a Blade-Tech holster. Looking at my stash of holsters, I probably have ten Milt Sparks holsters of varying varieties, fifteen El-Paso saddlery holsters, and thirty Blade Tech Holsters (one third for revolvers, and two thirds for autoloaders). They fill several boxes in my gun room. I could personally stock a small gun shop with my own holsters.
