I like the Bianchi 5bh or 5bh/l, the "l" is a lined holster. This is a belt holster with a thumbsnap. Safariland and Galco make a similar holster, as do most custom makers such as those that advertise on this site.

Plus one for the Bianchi 5BHL, they are a very funcional holster and looks great too. The nylon holsters have no soul and seem to wear blueing faster. Blue steel and leather!

another option would be the Simply Rugged holsters. I've heard nothing but good things about them.

I'm kind of a holster-aholic. My favorite leather holster for the "N"-frame Smith & Wesson is the Milt Sparks 200AW. I just ordered one for my 4-inch "K"-frame guns. I like both this holster and the El Paso Saddlery Tom Threepersons holsters for general carry. The 200AW sits a bit higher on the belt, covers the trigger guard, and has a stiff projection that protects your coat from the sights. In a lined model, it is almost twice as expensive as the Tom Threepersons holster. Is it worth twice as much? I guess that is a matter of opinion. I love both holsters because they are both custom jobs made the way I wanted them to my specifications. Right now Milt Sparks has about a six-month waiting period, while El-Paso Saddlery has a six or seven week waiting period.

Another really excellent general purpose holster is the belt or paddle holster made by Blade-Tech. The Blade-Tech holsters are about $65.00 or $70.00 and only take a week or two to get for most handguns. Like the Milt Sparks 200AW, the handgun is retained by friction that can be increased by tightening screws to the point where you can't get the gun out, then loosened to whatever tension you want. The Blade-Tech holsters have the advantage of being made of Kydex, or some similar type plastic, that is impervious to water. I live in Southeast Alaska where it rains all the time, so this is very important to me. I love the way the handgun actually "clicks" into place when you holster it into a Blade-Tech holster. Looking at my stash of holsters, I probably have ten Milt Sparks holsters of varying varieties, fifteen El-Paso saddlery holsters, and thirty Blade Tech Holsters (one third for revolvers, and two thirds for autoloaders). They fill several boxes in my gun room. I could personally stock a small gun shop with my own holsters.

Milt Sparks is my favorite too . But i also know what its like to have a new gun and no leather . 5Bh and whatever the same holster is for auto loaders is one of my favorites . The thumbbreak strap over the cocked and locked hammer is a nice secure belt carry . If you are new to packing , forgive me if this doesn't apply to you , I suggest you try a separate pistol belt instead of using your trouser belt . For the outdoors open carry it makes a lot of things convenient . if you drive with you 8 3/8 on your trouser belt , you will see the benefit of being able to unstrap once .

I wear my holsters on my pants belt. I'm a fat guy, so I wear suspenders all the time. The suspenders keep my pants from ending up around my ankles.

Some people say you can't trust a man who wears both a belt and suspenders because that person doesn't even trust his own pants. Anyone who has worked in the woods knows you wear your suspenders to hold up your pants, but you wear a belt to hang your handgun, knife, and whatever else you need with you. This works well for me. A separate gun belt doesn't work for me because my belly is bigger than my hips and butt. Even back in the dark ages, when I was a skinny young buck, I couldn't use a separate gun belt because I have "white man's ass" (basically a back with a crack). If I tried to wear a separate gun belt, it would be around my ankles. A gun belt that was equipped with suspenders (like the old style GI web gear) would work, but I've never seen any made. It is too bad they don't make something like that; it would be a lot easier to remove your gun for a short time. When it is on your pants belt you darned near need to strip just to take your gun off to go to the bathroom.

(basically a back with a crack).

Now that is funny!! True but funny!!! :D

I have always been told that such a person is the type that can be counted on , and shows the good sense to have redundant systems . I have some small loops like the cops use to attach their duty belt to their trousers belt but I usually can't remember where I put them , so usually I just suck it up tight .. I am a fan of suspenders too , my daughters insisted years ago , we must say no to crack .
