Looking for an INEXPENSIVE .22 auto

I have the Beretta NEOS, I love it, looks funny but is a tack driver. Disassemble is a breeze also. It eats anything you feed it. Extra mags can be bought from CDNN for only 10 bucks. I have had it set up with a red dot and a cheapo laser and highly recommend it.

Walther had to out do them and came out with the strangest looking pistol I have ever seen, the SP22.

But the people (2) I have talked to just love them and say they are tac drivers and w/o any problems.

I have the S&W 22A. It's a very nice pistol. The buffers are easily replaced. I also once had a Ruger MK 2 . it also was a nice gun, but hard to disassemble.

Here's another vote for the Browning Buckmark - inexpensive, accurate and reliable. Lots of fun at the range.

Good Luck with your decision,

Jerry

The Ruger because of the Ultimate Loader. Field stripping is easy once you get the hang of it. The gun with the UL can't be beat.

Accurate & Inexpensive

Al the Gunsmith keeps reminding me, "You got to be smarter than the gun." Assembling Ruger 22 autos is simple: 1) point gun down. 2) Pull trigger and flop hammer forward. 3) Insert latch thingie and snap shut.

My wife loves her Walther P22 with the dot sight. It just eats the X-ring when she is shooting -- real confidence builder. Light and easy to hold with 2 hands. Ruger Mk II with dot sight is a little heavy but is steadier to shoot. She hates both my M 41 s because grips are "clumsy" (her word). 1980 model has Burris 2X pistol scope and newer one has Clark barrel with CMore dot sight.

Why would anyone remove a Ruger barrel when aerosol spray cleaners are available? Three pull-throughs with a Bore snake after a 1 minute scrub with a tooth brush and its clean.

I'm going to look at a S&W 22A tonight. I wish I'd have the chance to try one first but my range doesn't rent them. I've tried a Walther P22 and a Ruger MKII. I didn't like the Ruger but loved the Walther. How does the 22A compare to either, are they similar at all? The 22a is $220, is that a reasonable price? I think it is NIB.

22a-1

have not had mine long but it is allready a fav.
first 10 rnds of cheap rem golden hollowpionts in the bullseye at twenty yards off hand right out of the box
and it just seems to get better everytime I shoot her
I love this thing, going out today with some macth ammo and see how she acts
she will see some squirrel hunts for sure
Doc:D

I have a 22A,422 and a mk 1 Ruger

The 22A is probably my pick as the most accurate 22 pistol I own. Mine is the round bull barrel and yes you have to replace the buffers every 2k of shooting. Smith will send you some, all you have to do is ask. My 422 is fun as well and quick but is so light it's a bit harder to stay on target for fast follow up shots. And my MK 1 is old reliable it will spit out what ever I put in it,I traded the fixed sights for millet sights and a standard mk 1 became a real tack driver. The only draw back was the new sights prevented me from using the vintage hunter holster that it fit with the old sights. As far as durability is concerned...My old mk 1 wins hands down as all parts are steel and look as good as the day It was given to me....3-29-71 It's pretty hard to make a gun with better materials these days I guess as most frames are alloy now....thats if they want to keep the prices down

Bore snakes are made just for those pesky Marks
Man no truer words ever spoken. But now days I only use bore snakes on all my guns, except a 17 HMR I have.

Before I ever bought my Ruger 96-17HMR I saw three 17 cal rifles at gun shops with snakes stuck in the barrels and decided not to ever snake a 17 if I ever made the mistake and bought a 17 cal rifle. Since buying the Ruger I have stumbled across a new unfired WMR barrel for the 96 and now the 17 HMR barrel is rapped up and stored in the gun safe. I since found out that the 17HMR barrel for the 96 is a rare bird, maybe one day I will sell the barrel.

Don't you love it when things work out.
I am also a boresnake fan, haven't put a cleaning rod together in I don't know how long. I have resisted the .17 urge...have become a WMR fan...I "need" a 9422 in .22 WMR, and some days I feel like I 'need' a Ruger single action convertible, but I can usually fight that one off.

Don't laugh but I bought the 96 thinking it was a 22 WMR and didn't realize it was a 17HMR till I was ready to leave and asked if I was geting a free box of ammo and the guy brought out some 17 HMR and at that point I was dumbfounded speachless and the guy offered to give me my money back and I started laughing and said I would take it.

I was after a 22 LR 96 and did not know at the time they made they had made the 96 in WMR or 17 cal even. Seems the 17 cals were kind of rare, and the HMR very rare. So in the long run I made out, the rifle was old stock NIB and I got a very good deal on the rifle.
