Hey looking for a good quality American made owb leather holster. I have looked at a few different ones online some are very expensive and don't won't to pay a lot for something I don't like so what's your favorite owb holster and why? Thanks for your opinions

I'm probably going to order a DeSantis Scabbard tomorrow for my Shield. I looked at one today and it looks like a pretty good value (Amazon's got them for $53.) It's the 3 belt slot style that can be worn almost straight up or canted. Apparently it can also be worn cross-draw, but I don't think my physique will allow that. :)

Jason Winnie. Jason Winnie Leathergoods

Some of his exotics can be spendy, but he made all my carry holsters, good price, great quality. Made in US by a guy who shoots.

IMHO, be careful shopping for very cheap holsters and belts. If you are going to carry a gun, a good belt and holster go a long way towards comfort.

I second the sentiment that going cheap on leather is a grave mistake and leads to spending more in the long run.
El Paso Saddlery is my only holster and belt maker. Got tuns of useless cheap stuff mouldering in a box.

I just bought a Mitch Rosen upper limit express.
It holds my .45 shield with good retention and allows a comfortable draw and reholster.
It sits higher up with less below the belt than a lot of others I looked at so it easy to cover up with a shirt.
I like it, but my experience with holsters is limited.

Heard lots of good things about El Paso. I have not handled one myself. And to the OP, if you carry a lot, you most likely will have a drawer full of holsters that did not work out for some reason.

Another option is Milt Sparks, not real cheap, but a solid holster that you can sometimes find used on the interwebs.

Milt Sparks Holsters I have an IWB Sparks, very nice, I just don't carry IWB, but got a deal on it..

I think my next gun belt is going to be from: Tucker Gun Belts | Premium Leather Belts | Tucker Gun Leather

A good friend of mine swears by their holsters and belts.

Lots of options out there that should not be too expensive.

Desantis or Tagua make great off the shelf leather products. What gun is it for and where are you? Maybe a rookie leather worker like me will help you out.

I'd make you one for cost of leather if you lived near me

I have a De Santis for mine but the Stoner holsters are very nice as well as I have one for my CZ.

Now that might be the best option yet. Get one custom made, for cost... Great way to try a new holster.

I wear a Desantis for the real world on the job or while riding on my wheeler and hunting she holds up real well.

I make my own leather holsters. When buying one I would suggest at least 9-10 ounce vegetable tanned leather. Lined or unlined (debatable), I make unlined as it's easier and it allows any dirt to not grind onto the surface of the pistol. Lined holsters tend to pick up and hold more fine dirt.

Holsters for the Shield need to not make contact with the magazine release button. The holster should ride just below the button.

Whatever holster you get, a good belt is the key. The thicker the better. I use Dal-Tech belts myself.
