looking for help identifying

Hey everybody, I was wondering if someone could give me a hand identifying an old revolver my dad gave me as a wedding gift. From what I have gathered so far it is a K-22 combat masterpiece. I would like to try and figure out the year of manufacture and if it's a pre-18 model or not. I did not know about looking behind the yoke for the model number until now and it is at home in my safe. I would also like to find out if the grips pictured are stock or not.

I've shot it a few times and it is one of the nicest pistols I've ever handled. I was thinking of taking it out rabbit hunting, but it is in great shape and after finding out what it might be, it might spend more time in the safe haha.

Attached a couple of pictures, and the serial number is K 146xxx.

The hammer style dates it as a pre 18,but the serial number on the butt will get a better guess.Id guess early 50s.Grips are after market,most of these shipped with diamond magnas.Take it hunting!

Thanks! I found a few threads with serial numbers similar to mine, so I guess I can say it's a pre-18. It's kind of hard to leave it in the safe, it will probably make it out hunting soon!

K146xxx indicates 1952, so of course it is not a Model 18. Call it a "pre-Model 18" if you like. At the time it was made, it was simply a .22 Combat Masterpiece.

As has been stated, it would have come with Magna stocks, most likely. If you like those, keep them.

Awesome, I appreciate the help. It really is a beautiful gun, kind of nice on the eyes in the sea of poly-frames and AR-15's. It came from an old Navy Vet that lives up the street from my parents. He gave it to my dad for helping him do some work to their house years ago, and my dd then gave it to me as a wedding gift. I've known that guy since I was a kid, he's like an encyclopedia when it comes to guns, but I don't live around there any more so I knew there would be someone here that could help me out.
