I want to get some work done on a shotgun and need a good gunsmith in Waterloo/Cedar Rapids Iowa area. I've tried googling gunsmiths, but can't find any close enough.Those that I find are 3-4 hours or farther drive away. I would prefer to take the gun to the person & not ship it. I live in the Independence area and would have no problems driving an hour or so. Can any of the Iowa guys help me out?

You might ask at the Scheele's in Waterloo, if it is still there. They might know of someone.

You could try contacting Brownells. Since they are located in IA they may know of some local gunsmiths. They've been selling gunsmith supplies for a very long time.
Thanks for the info. I called Brownells and they said they don't do work there. They also will not recommend nor tell you of shops in your area....I'm guessing they don't want there name associated with somebody else's work incase the work would be subpar. They give me a website of a list of gunsmiths from all over the country....the same one posted above.

I called Gander( Cedar Rapids). The don't do any work at the store. They send all their work to their shop in Kansas City(?)Will cost about $75.
Called Scheels in Cedar Falls and they send all their work to their store in Des Moines. Will also cost about about $75.
I talked to my neighbor and he recommended a shop about 40 minutes from here. Here has been doing business there for about 20 yrs. He said the guy do real good work and and the prices are very reasonable.
