I recently acquired some CFE, usually load HP-38 and Unique for pistol.

Not finding much data for 124 grain, round nose lead boolits and wondering if anyone has run this combo? If so what does your load data look like and how was accuracy?

Any and all input would be appreciated.

CFE "Pistol" in the 38 special was ok.......
it did a lot better with the Heavy weight bullets.

in my 9mm loads the 115gr plated did not make top fps but it did well with the 124gr plated bullets in my .......
3" Kahr that is 1" shorter than most of your guys 9mm's !!

This powder will work !!

Just a matter of testing loads........

Seems odd using CFE for Lead bullets?

I use CFE Pistol for lead bullets.

Even without the "Copper Fouling Eraser" feature, it's still an outstanding powder for most handgun applications including lead bullets.

Why not look at Hodgdons online were there are 11 loads for the 9mm and CFE Pistol??

125 gr CN would be the closest for your bullet.

Yep, I bought the powder on a whim, because it was the ONLY pistol powder I could find.
I didn't have time to research it, on the spot, so I'm playing catch up here.
I was hoping to glean some hands on wisdom from those here in this forum that perhaps had loaded this powder using lead bullets, particularly the combination I mention.

I looked at the Hodgdon site before posting this query.
I haven't been loading for long and , thanks to some very generous members in this fine forum I took up the hobby.

When I see a question, like yours, asking why I would use CFE for lead bullets it just sort of rubs me wrong.

Thanks for the reply, I'm trying to stay with lead and will take it under advisement.

Thank you.
Can you expand on which lead bullets, caliber loaded for and so forth.

I'm glad to hear you have had success with it.

Like you, I bought CFE Pistol because it was all I could find.
I'm glad I did.

I've been using it with Missouri Bullet Company's hardcast lead bullets in 45acp, 44 Special, 44 Magnum and 45 Colt. I get exceptional accuracy and it's fairly clean burning. I don't have a chronograph but I think the numbers are right where they should be.

CFE Pistol is very similar to Unique, but it's a denser powder and doesn't take up as much case space as Unique. It meters great through my Dillon 550b.

I also use it for jacketed bullets in 9mm and 45acp with outstanding results. Some of my most accurate loads are with CFE Pistol. As for the "copper cleaning" claims. I don't know? I can't really tell any difference.

It's rapidly becoming my favorite pistol powder and I see myself buying a lot more of it.

It was not intended to "rub you the wrong way" I apologize that it did.

But stating that:

"I didn't have time to research it, on the spot, so I'm playing catch up here. "

Perhaps some research on your part before posting a question with more details would gather more positive replies

You did not state you looked at Hodgdon which does give a load for a lead bullet, Had you mentioned that or that you bought the powder as it was all that was available maybe my response would have been different. How do I or anyone else know what powders you may or may not have or that you just bought it because?? The more you input the more we can reply.

The Hodgdon data would be the same for your bullet only the COL will be different. That you will need to determine yourself and your barrel.

CFE may well be very good with lead as well as plated or jacketed bullets, I think it is more marketing hype than anything. There is a thread on the rifle version which I posted some time back when it came out.

Fair enough and no problem.
I could have been more informative as to where I was coming from, where I had looked and so forth.

I jumped on this powder because I had 'heard' it was a good all around pistol powder and it is about the only powder I have been able to find in some time.
Once the dust settled and I did some searching beyond the Hodgdon site I realized there wasn't the plethora of users that I had negligently expected to find posting all about there experiences with this bullet and that powder and so forth.

Thanks again to everyone at this fine forum for your input and general loading help.

It is to new of a powder to have much of a track record, and probably not many people have even found any for sale.
Heck there is no powder anywhere around here.

You should be fine with the Hodgdon posted data. Plus they are really very helpful if you call them Monday through Thursday.

They do not reply by phone only e mail but they are up early.:)
