Hello S&W forum users, I have the S&W 640 that I would like to carry OWB in a low ridding holster. It seems that all I can find are holsters that carry with the cylinder either at or above the belt line. I've spent a couple days working the LGS and no matter if it's a pancake style or hip style, they all ride to high for my liking. If I could find a low riding IWB where the cylinder was below the belt line, I would grab one of those as well.
Any suggestions as to who has a truly low riding holster OWB and IWB? HELP!

If I can get something this this holster?????? Maybe custom made??

Can't really help you as to specific holster makers. I can make one suggestion as to a type of holster. Consider a "J.I.T Belt Slide" holster. A number of holster makers offer examples of this type. (Just Google it.) The J.I.T. places the cylinder at about belt level and works very well for j-frame sized revolvers. They also have no cant, so they can be worn strong side or crossdraw, if that matters to you.

Any custom maker can adjust the ride simply by increasing the length of
the belt loop. Talk to a custom maker about what you want. Ken Null
is one of the best and you won't have to wait in line forever. Most of the
holsters seem to place the cylinder right at about belt level. If you want
if an inch or so lower, just tell the maker and I'm sure they can accomodate.

I prefer to have my holsters carry my revolvers more or less in line with the belt, i.e. the rear of the cylinder is at the top of the belt and the front of the cylinder is at the bottom of the belt. Side Guard Holsters makes both IWB and OWB holsters set up this way. I carry my 642 in a Side Guard Quick Clip IWB holster that carries the way I like.

Bobby Mac's also makes IWB and OWB holsters with the cylinder in line with the belt. I don't have any experience with their gear but they have a solid reputation for quality.

Both of those options may suit your needs.

There's also Bell Charter Oak Holsters, which has some deep, low carry IWB holsters that probably better fit what you're looking for. I don't know anything about their OWB holsters, though.

I hope that helps.

I had Alex of American Classic Gunleather (05carbonDRZ) here on the forum make this for my 2.5" 686+. It rides lower than a pancake style holster and is very comfortable and easy to draw from.

I recommend his work highly.
