Looking for some recoil reducing grips for my 629-6 / N-frame revolver.

I tried the Pachmayr decelerators since I had a good experience with them on a Ruger SuperRedhawk. Unfortunately for the N-frame, they fit like **** and the frame just wiggles up and down as I move it (even tightened the screw past the nut).

My 629 came with rubber grips that cover the full backstrap, but are pretty stiff. I have heard that the SW 460/500 may fit the N-frame, would they provide an improvement in felt recoil? Any other options out there?

Ive been running the decelerators on mine as well since the stock ones were too thin for my hands. I also noticed they weren't a tight fit, they smell pretty bad too. I just ordered a set of ahrends retro targets off eBay a few minutes ago. I'll let you know how they shoot this weekend.

Edit: have you shot with the pachs? They are a huge improvement over the rubber that came on my 629. The extra bit of rubber at the top of the back strap kept my thumbs skin intact and bruise free. I just don't like the look of rubber grips. And you could always just shoot 44 special and save the mags for personal defense.

I recently put some Pachmayr Diamond pro on my Model 69. A definite improvement in recoil management with heavy loads. No question rubber is not a object of beauty but for function they are better. These are available for N frame round butt revolvers.

The Hogue Monogrips for the .500 S&W cover the entire grip frame and have gel inside along the back. If they fit they should help quite a bit with felt recoil. I know they will fit on a Governor. Haven't tried them on my 629-4.

I use the standard Hogue Monogrip on my 4 inch 29. They work perfect and fit is really great. Not bad for around 22 bucks from my LGS.

If your 629-6 is a round butt gun you can indeed use the X frame recoil reducing grips from S&W. I have them on my 629-3 and they are fantastic for recoil reduction.

I use Ahrends grips on my 3" 629 "woods" gun. Jordan's are too big for my hand, and Hogue grips are too skinny at the top and the bulge is too low for a proper high grip. Ahrends are just right in width, and the non-checkered grip slips just enough to not raise blisters. Finger grooves in the "Combat" version help maintain recoil control, and the flattened front makes pointing natural.

I do suggest rounding off the ridge in the fillet. It busts my knuckle with its sharp edge.

I found that the rubber grips on my 629 Mountain Revolver just did not cut the mustard. No factory grip has ever fit my hand better than N-frame square butt. I contacted John Culina back in 2012 and asked him if he could make a pair of square butt N-frame grips for my round-butt 629. He said he could and would be glad to make me a pair and just happened to have some Honey Bastogne Walnut ready to go. I couldn't have been happier with the fit but still decided to have the thing quadra-ported to make the full-on heavy magnum loads more comfortable to become proficient with.
