Is there a good source (an source at all) for new parts for 3rd gen guns? I know Midway is supposedly a partner with Smith, for such things, but my quick look on their site turned up nothing that I need.

I'm looking for a new hammer for a 4506 and a 6906.

Incidentally, I noticed that Midway is offering entire slides for things like the 4506. It says it's a special order, 60-day thing. But, that still seems amazing that they've be doing that. Has anyone actually purchased a new part like that? Smith (and all the other manufacturers) can't make enough guns for demand with the current hysteria. So, I would be super surprised to find that they're actually delivering slides and major components for out-of-production guns.

Brownells has the hammer for the 4506 listed as in stock. Smith shows the bobbed hammer for the compact framed 3rd generation guns as "obsolete", so they probably don't have them.

Hi Oliveview,
A lot of parts are interchangeable between the 4506 and the 6906. Hammers, levers, triggers. Obviously slides are not. As far as ordering a slide for your 4506 I wouldn't recommend it. Some will fit, others won't. Its usually a factory only item that they fit. You should be able to order the smaller parts from Smith.

Thank, everyone. Good information.
GaryS - I just checked out that 4506 hammer. That one is black, and a different style. I guess that would have been from the last versions of the guns? Mine is a very early 3rd gen, with the flash-chromed (I assume) hammer and trigger. I wonder if there is anywhere to fins those vintage pieces. Maybe just have to find one used online?

Printer - thanks for that info. I was more amused than anything else, about those raw slides. For the cost their asking, I'd rather put that money towards a new gun of some kind.

I'd check Numrich to see if they had older parts. I think that the black ones are late production and may be MIM.

It seems that it might be getting harder to find some replacement parts. Then again, from what people say, as long as the guns are cleaned and lubed properly, they don't break very often.

With Numrich, you get whatever the order picker pulls out of the numbered bin... and what's in the bin depends on a lot of things. After 3 consecutive orders and not getting what the item description said it was supose to be, I no longer use Numrich.

I keep my eye on Gunbroker, I've been a lot more sucessful there for the older version parts.

There's a guy on gunbroker (mets2redsox0) that has a lot of S&W parts - might be worth checking out. I got a hammer for my 469 from him (I wanted a 3rd gen hammer without the half-cock).
