I currently have a Model 642, which I pocket carry. After much dry firing and many visits to the range I have gotten prety good with it. I pocket carry it when I need to tuck my shirt

I am now looking for a new revolver, to replace my semi-automatic as my alternative carry gun when I don't need to tuck my shirt.

I would like a revolver with either a 2 or 3 inch barrel, that holds 6 or 7 rounds of .38 sp.,that will be good for practicing at the range in terms of recoil, not more then 28 ounces or so, and that will carry well OWB or IWB here in Florida.

Is there such a gun available?

Thanks.

Hey try a 2" model 15....I currently carry one as I have the same issue. I can hide it very well and use +p 38 specail rounds. It is scary accurate.

I have a Model 64 snub nose K frame with 6 shots and it's great. I love it because being stainless it's easy to clean and it's a shooter and accurate

Well, how about a 2 1/2" 686+? Seven shots of your choice of 38 or 357 and absolutely the most scary 357 going if you happen to be on the wrong end!

I'll recommend the model 64 snubbie as well. It also comes with a three inch snout. My 64-2 snub is more accurate than I am.

many good suggestions here. any of the k-frame snub nose revolvers carry quite nicely

Any 3" K frame. After 25+ years it is the one revolver I still carry. The 3" ejects cleaner than the 2.5, a little longer sight radius and carries just as easily as the 2.5" unless you're really tiny. I still have several 3" 65's a 64 and a 66.

Wanna trade one for a 2 inch 64-2? :D

Thanks all for the very helpful suggestions. I will begin checking the models suggested and post a pic of what I decide on.

A 3" barrel K frame like this Model 64 is hard to beat. I haven't been carrying this one because I don't have a holster for it.

I have been carrying this 2" Model 10 a lot in a cheapie holster and am growing increasing fond of it.

About any 2" or 3" K frame would make you a good gun.

What is your cary method?

Thank you.

I believe you have answered your own question. You have a 642, you shoot it well, it carries in your pocket.......why are you looking for another revolver? Unless you are considering going to a larger bore, 44 or 45, why do you need more? If you want a range gun, get a 4 or better yet, 6" K or L frame. Or if you want an auto......ok, I understand. But I don't see the need to increase the size, weight and bulk in the same caliber when you admit that the 642 is working for you. However, if you are just attempting to rationalize the need for another gun, then I fully understand! Good luck in your pursuit.

Colt Detective Special

A good 6 shot alternative to the 642 for belt carry is the Colt Detective Special, which is all steel and weighs 21 ounces empty. It is easier to shoot well than the 15 ounce 642, gives you one more round, and conceals easily. There are lots of used ones on the market since Colt produced these for many decades.

Here is a picture of mine next to a J frame for size comparison.

On the issue of carry in a holster etc. (you have a 642) How about a 640
Identical for speedloaders same operation etc just all steel/Stainless
I am very biased the 640 is my go to carry all attached is a pic of my 442
in the desantis holster I also use for my 640.

Yes! The S&W Md. 442.

You already have a 642 platform that you apparently shoot well & you don't want an automatic, so I think that particular model fits well within your rather broad criteria.

I hope this personal insight is of use to you.
