The receiver is the portion of a pistol that is serial numbered, so not something you can easily buy online and in some states, requires an FFL for a person-to-person sale. I seriously doubt that S&W will sell one to anyone, even an FFL or FFL/gunsmith. When it comes to purchasing bare 1911 receivers, there are very few choices. For the most part, it will be one from Caspian Arms or perhaps they may have one with cosmetic defects that they sell under the name "Foster".
