Looking hard for the fabled MOE FDE. Are they extinct???

she knows about all 3 of mine and has 2 of her own. in fact, she asked me to put a few rounds through her snub .38 today when i took my 15-22 out. she doesnt practice as often as id like but we did get our concealed permits together.

Well, it's great that she shoots too, and participates in your hobby. In my case, my wife hates guns, so it's best she can't tell one from another. Or one accessory from another.

A GOOD price? Probably not. (The highest local price around here is $539, plus 7% sales tax is $577.) A REASONABLE price? Okay, if you really want one. I bought mine for $479 plus tax, and another local shop sells for $474, WHEN they have them.

But prices vary from place to place. I refused to pay the $539, when I knew I could eventually get one for $474. But the next week, found the one for $479, and took it home.

Most shops in Miami area, when they have the 811035, tag at 515...about 545 out the door. I had actually just bought one a few weeks ago only to find out 2 days ago my wife had bought me one for our anniversary next month. So I guess I should be able to sell my first one pretty easy...or have one for my left hand

My wife loves to shoot. She loves clays and wants her own O/U. A decent O/U will cost more than ALL MY OTHER GUNS COMBINED.

At the gun and knife show here in Slidell, La, they had some here for $499. I almost punched myself in the face right there in front of the retailer for not waiting to look at the show to get my 15-22. They are having another gun and knife show in Kenner, La (about an hour from here in the New Orleans area). If you don't mind the drive, its well worth it. They have some nice gin and knife shows down here in south La.

S&W 15-22 MOE

In the last three weeks I bought the all black 15-22, liked it so much went out and bought the 15-22 MOE FDE. Found it at my local gunshop,only one they had. I have fired all kinds of .22LR and not one problem. I have not even tried any of the .22LR which are supposely designed for these semi autos. My wife shoots the all black 15-22 and she calls it "Little Blackie" ( remember the original "True Grit" movie)?

Really are fun guns.

Cash or credit? I think it is reasonable either way. In my area, I have seen very few MOE's, and only one in FDE - the one in my safe. Apparently, they are out there for $50 less or so, but how much do you want to spend in gasoline driving around shopping for a cheaper one? How much time do you want to spend on the internet scouring sites? MSRP is $687, so dealers selling them at $475 are probably making very little money on the sale. If you love shopping around, go for it! You could probably buy one "on-line" for cheaper, but what does your local dealer charge for a transfer fee?

Mine was $529 cash at a local gun shop, and I know that shop isn't going to be significantly over other local shops. I'm sure I could have waited for one of the big box stores to corner the local market and run a sale, but it would probably have cost me $30 in gas just to make the trip, if my schedule was free. (Then there is taking a number and standing in line at the big box store...) My local FFL knew I was looking for one, called me when it came in, and gave me a reasonable price, and I lucked out and was the first one in the door to do paperwork that day. It doesn't get any easier than that!

Of course, the way demand seems to be for those, it may be gone when you go back. You'll definitely enjoy it once you get your hands on one.

When I purchased mine, Smith & Wesson didn't have a MOE FDE model, so I did the next best thing... I made mine into one.. Yea, you have to purchase the MOE FDE stock, grip, forward grip and rail ladders but it's worth it.. I even made the quick disconnect on mine.. This is a tad harder than most would do.. but it worked for me, see below:

For those of you who want nice tools to help remove the barrel or flash hider, I found these two websites (actually the same company) offering some fairly unique options. If you use the barrel blocks, be sure to clamp the vise as tight as you can, or the barrel will move and the aluminum blocks will leave a mark. Likewise, with the barrel nut tool (the better one is on the tacticool site), wrap your barrel in tape to prevent marks from the extension tube. Also be sure the teeth are fully seated in the barrel nut before you start turning.
