looking to buy a 627 v-comp

Looking at this gun a freind of mine has. Its a older model not sure of how old it is but the gun is in very good shape only fired maybe 50 times. I cant seem to find this particular model on the internet. I can find the two tone ones but this one is the satin silver color. I have not shot it yet didnt have time (daylight today) to shoot it. However i cant really find a value for it ---i forgot to get the number after the 627-? Anyone on here have any info on these guns? It looks like anything that comes from the performance center is good stuff.

These are 8 shot N Frames and are great revolvers. Mine is not the v-comp model, but it is by far one of my favorites and shoots like a dream.

The v-comps are harder to find and are sometimes sought after by competition shooters who shoot ICORE. I would say street price is probably $1000 give or take. One thing to note is the front sight is different on these guns and is a dovetail rather than pin in or spring fit. So it does limit your options some on easy front sight changes.

In 2000 S&W made a run called the 627-3 which was a Jerry Miculek special and consisted of an 8 shot cyl. and a 5" bbl.
It has a removable compensator and/or removable cap to protect the rifling and crown. It had a .312" smooth trigger and .300" target hammer. The trigger had an overtravel stop pin. It also had a red ramp front sight.
The grips were wood - Hogue 'Jerry Miculek' design. Supposedly came in a Perf Center alum. case.
No MSRP listed in the Supica book. No quantities are listed. The distributor was RSR - they might have the actual run numbers.

Hey... that's my picture! Note the Patridge-like front sight dovetailed in - that's what came on my '01 vintage 627-3 JM PC V-Comp. It came with both the blank and Comp for the muzzle, as well as the allen wrench for same - and a few moonclips. Below, I substituted pressure treated deck boards and skylight for the incandescent lamps and a plank of zebrawood. I did put on a current JM grip in place of the Ahrends shown earlier. Great revolver - super PC trigger job - and it pops all primers. Mine was little used by it's original owner - and we both have only shot .38 or, in my case, .38-level loads in .357M cases. It came in the metal PC case - which I have.

I recently tried to sell mine in our classifieds here - but yanked the ad - I wanted $1,200. The reason was simple - the 4" 627 Pro I bought, no where near the trigger, gets much more use.

I love that spring-loaded front sight on the 627 Pro - which came as a red ramp - and required no tools to change to the HiViz.

Great gun I have one but the plain 627 is a good choice also. I don't notice any difference with the comp on it but the dovetail front sight has been a problem as I want a Hi-Vis fiber optic sight for it and can not find one. Smith has no source for one either as I emailed them for where I could get one. Mine was almost new with PC case and paperwork. I paid 1200 and have no regrets

I purchased two of the 627 V-Comps, one with a 3 in barrel and unfluted cylinder and the other a 5 inch barrel with fluted cylinder. My son "acquired" my 5 inch version and I seldom shoot the 3 inch version. The 3 inch version had a ramp front sight with a red insert which was only visible from the rear of the sight unlike the normal red inserts.

I have a 627 v-comp. It has the 3" barrel with the removable compensator and unfluted cylinder cut for moon clips.

this thread is so last year. realizing i am now a bit more interested in production numbers of the early run. iirc the sn on mine is 318. at the time i understood that 500 were made on the first run and im not sure if mine is in that group.

jan 8 2002 i was cruising Keiths ("if we dont have it, you dont need it") in Gresham Or and asked about the revolver pictured in post #4 by stainz. i had heard about the miculek and asked Keith about it as he has a huge inventory of pc trinkets. he went in the back room and came out with one. blah blah blah and after i beat him up a little bit the $980 price tag, i had to buy it.
i didn't plan on dropping that kind of bread when i walked in so i had to use the plastic.

the long and short is the cash price was $765 and the plastic price... the price i paid was $780. its actually crossed out on the receipt.

627-3 V-Comp

I am trying to track down the existence of the V-Comp on the 627-PC platform. All the V-Comps above are 627-3. If anyone has one please post a pic. Here is a 3-inch version mentioned a couple times above. It too is a 627-3.

My 627 V-COMP 3" is identical to the one in your picture. It is product code 170182. I purchased it new in September 2002.

Mr. G, it too is product code 170182. SWSC also notes pc 170183 described the same. I wonder what the difference is? I wonder if one of the members here has one with this product code. BTW, the one pictured was shipped March 2001 and has a JMA prefix.

Can't find anything about the 170183. Mine also has the JMA prefex.
