Looking to mitigate recoil from my M&P 10

Glad someone else is as 'sensitive' as I am. I love my m&p 10 and wouldn't dissuade anyone from buying one based on its recoil, but my experience includes an unpleasantly multi-colored shoulder from one session that ended with a box of 168gr Superformance...granted, I was intentionally easing up a bit to settle the rifle down. I'm going to try the thick butt pad route.

Limbsaver makes the one I bought and it fits the factory adjustable buttstock.

Standing and shooting is not too bad because shoulder movement absorbs a lot of the recoil but 80 rounds leaning into the factory stock at the bench wearing only a tee shirt wears on a person's comfort. That was when i bought the limbsaver. Plus i shoot better because i stop anticipating recoil.

Rotator cuff surgery a few years ago, both sides. My stock 10 doesn't bother me, with my usual wool shirt cover garment...

Now, my old model 70 '06 sporter with hard buttplate and 168 gr. SMKs does jolt a bit. And the old '03 Springfield was a REAL kicker!

I got my 10 because it was a light 7.62 AR, optics-friendly, and a logical way to keep shooting .30 caliber. Decent warranty (S&W replaced an excellent-shooting barrel with a cosmetic flaw in the bore for me) and a lot of bang for the buck.

Full disclosure: I have extensively modified my 10. The safety switch on the RH side bruised my hand. Took my little Allen wrench and without consulting anyone, removed it. Oddly enough this did not affect reliability or accuracy.

My only regret is they didn't come out 20 years earlier.

I just bought a Lantac 7.62 muzzle brake. She is loud, but it substantially takes down the buck she has. I would suggest if sound isnt a issue, to invest in it. Cost me 122.

:eek:To the collective:

Purchased a M&P 10, cleaned it and ran a bunch of rounds through it. Shooting 7.62 through it. Love the rifle

At the risk of seeming like a wimp, the rifle just beat the living daylights out of my shoulder. In defense, I have a rebuilt shoulder and it is a little touchy.

Anyone know of good recoil pad solution for the M&P 10? Rifle is factory, no modifications.

Thanks.

Trade it for a 5.56 . . . With a rebuilt shoulder, I would have set my bar a little lower. I'm pretty solid at the shoulder, and .308 is heavy for me . . .
