The inevitable happened.

The naughty rat made a jailbreak during a cage cleaning. I was sitting there sad, not knowing how I would get her out from behind the bathroom cabinet. I was about decided just to keep vigil waiting for her to poke her head out far enough to snatch her as she was going to get hungry soon enough. Brat kept peeking out and teasing me.

Mr. wrench's way does not involve waiting, or keeping guard so that cat doesn't get her if she comes out when I'm not there.

No. His way involves bathroom remodeling and many tools without me even asking for help.

Anyway, the good girls are glad to have their roomie back.

Here are the good ones, Coda and Spanky in their little cozy.

Wednesday is tricksy little hobbit and evades capture and camera.

As I've had my excitement for this week tenfold already, and it;s just Sunday, I'm having a beer and calling it a night.

There would have been a very upset child had we not saved her rat.

They are very, very spoiled pets.

Did you try luring it out with "cheese" ????

LOL. I wouldn't mind a snake so much, but my husband is not fond of them.

And oddly enough, I find that the rats really are not so keen on cheese.

Uh, wouldn't that be baited breath?

either "bated" or "baited" would have been acceptable in the context of the pun.

And yes, they do like peanut butter more than cheese. But these ladies LOVE blueberries, grape tomatoes, or sunflower seeds more than anything else.

We had generations of rats. My wife thought it would be good to have for biology class. One was just lonely so she got a female and then we had a bunch more. My oldest son is handicapped but he became the "Beast Master" He took good care of them and they were allowed out to sit with the family on the couch.
Time passed and all of them eventually died off and then we got dogs.
One of the sneakiest rats got loose, they could not find it anywhere. It finally got hungry and he caught it. My wife goes to wash clothes and sure enough we have a tidal wave coming out of laundry room. The rat had ate a hole in the washer drain pipe!!

Personally, I would use 22lr shotshells. My little cousins had a pet rat and it was pretty friendly. Not my choice but they loved it. When the inevitable came, a large funeral procession took place with a kilted bagpiper playing Amazing Grace. Amazing:)

My daughters hampster came running towards me while i was on the john in the dark at 3am when it got out. I had 7 cats at the time all trained killers and the hampster was very luckly they were out or sleeping. I yelled and the kids caught it.

At my camp in VT when i opened up the bunk i had 10 mice trapped. I sent the wife and kids outside and like dirty harry with the red ryder BB gun i went to work picking them all off. I was 10 for 10 that day.

My daughter has a pet rat during her elementary school days. She was pretty good about taking care of the beast. I didn't say anything to my girl, but I did not like having a rat in the house. One day the rat died and we honored my daughter's friend with a solemn funeral/burial. Steph cried for her lost pet. Truth be known, I was celebrating on the inside. I felt kinda skanky about that, but still didn't miss the rat.

My cat brought me a mouse today while I was sitting in the back yard with a whiskey sour and an attitude about this cough and respiratory thing that just aren't going away.

The mouse was small, confused, and clearly did not understand the situation. I scooped it up and put it in the garden, where it instantly recovered its senses and raced off into the wilds of a begonia shrub that is doing much better than it has any right to. The cat gave me a "What a maroon!" look and stomped sullenly into the house, irritated at the waste of a mouse. I had to feed him early to make friends with him a gain. Nice to have a trivial relationship where a bribe can quickly cover for lost respect.

Hemingway said that a moral act was one you felt good after. I felt good after rescuing the mouse, so it must have been the proper thing to do. Or maybe the mouse event was a neutral incident and I was just reacting to the the Jim Beam and lemon juice.

Still coughing, though. Rats!
