I have noticed that the rear sight on my 9c was sliding ever so slightly to the left after a range session. I was surprised that I was able to loosen it up with a screwdriver and adjust it back

My question is should the sight be able to be moved so freely? I could easily take the sight right off the back of the slide if I wanted too. I was under the impression that it should be in there so tight that a sight pusher would be needed

Is there an issue with the slide or sight? Should I just apply a dab of loctite and call it a day?

Thinking of TFOs but don't want to get if it turns out the slide is milled incorrectly at the rear sight channel

Thoughts?

Set screws will not hold a loosely fitted sight for long. It's not clear from your post if there is a set screw, or you simply used a screwdriver as a tool to move the sight. (Next time, use a brass drift punch or sight pusher.)

You can tighten a dovetailed sight by peening the bottom with a center punch, which raises metal a few thousandths around the dimple. You can also apply Lock-Tite designed to fill gaps for bushings and such. It is often green or purple, and labeled for this application.

Without being able to measure the gun I cannot tell you which component is to blame. You can lock it in place with the screw and a dab of nail polish. If your lucky it will be the sight to blame and the new truglos will solve the problem for good.

I used a hex (star?) screwdriver to loosen the screw...when the screw is loosened I can push the sight out with my finger if I wanted too. No brass punch or sight pusher needed.

Something is wrong with either your sights or slide. You should not be able to move the sights without a sight pusher or hammer and brass punch. Hopefully it is the sights and not the slide. I would try and find a dealer/gunsmith or someone that stocks sights and take the gun or slide to them and see if different sights do the same. If they do you have a slide problem.

Do you know anyone that might have changed out their stock sights? If so you could try them and see where the problem is.

I have replaced the factory sights on all my M&P's...on two of them, the factory rear sights were so loose that after removing the screw, simple thumb pressure was all I needed to push them off the slide! Replacement sights have gone on tight in every case...

Thanks for the info guys, hopefully replacement sights will fit nice and tight. Sounds like what dullh described is dead on with what I'm seeing

If you pm me your address I can send you a sight set I took off my m&p compact with a sight pusher, aka undamaged or a sight set I removed from my pro series that took off pre sight pusher, aka dinged up.
