I am new to the AR platform. Don't flame me too bad if this question is way off base. Just bought the 15T. There seems to be some play between the upper and lower receivers. I can jiggle it with both hands and can feel them vibrate. Is this normal?

I have not shot it yet as S&W forgot to put the sites on from the factory. Turned out good for me as Dick's Sporting Goods took $100 off and then I got another $110 off for putting on their credit card. They also thru in a three pack of Troy 30 round mags and 50 rounds of Remington ammo. Then I just called S&W to have new sites sent out.

Out the door with all taxes, three extra mags and ammo for $914.

Great deal on the 15T. And yes, it's normal to have play between the upper and lower receiver. If it bothers you too much, there are a couple options that you can try. Others can comment as it hasn't bothered me enough to mess with it. It does not affect function or accuracy.

Welcome aboard! You got a good deal on that 15T. Can't add any more than what BillyJack said.

Yep, if the play bothers you, the easiest way to tighten it up is to separate the upper from the lower. Where the front pin goes through to hold them together you will notice a little block sticking down from the upper. Put a small O ring around the base of that square block and then put them back together. It will need to be a skinny one but it will tighten it right up...

The O-rings are the least obtrusive.

The Accu-Wedge that goes in the back of the action by the back pin puts too much upward force on the receiver and actually increases wear in the pin holes. That will make the fit looser with time.

You mean by using the o- ring?

No there is a product called an accu-wedge that fits into the lower receiver at the rear, you really have to trim it down to get it to fit an S&W M&P15. It accelerates wear in the pin holes. The Oring doesnt plus you dont have to trim it and if you get the right size you dont even see it.

size #7 O-rings seem to work pretty good! kind of a pain to fit on at first but they will fit. This option is probably the least expensive, Accu-wedge or other similar products go for about $5 a pop, you can get 7-10 O-rings for about $2-$3.

The accu-wedge is made for a low shelf lower receiver (or at least the one I had), which my m&P sport was not (it is a high shelf). So after cutting the wedge down enough to fit (cut almost the whole bottom half off) got it in place in the back of the receiver, then found I could not close the upper!

With the O-ring, the upper will be slightly more difficult to close but not much at all.

I shot my rifle both with the O-ring and without (I couldn't perceive any performance difference). It's more of an aesthetic improvement IMO!

I can't remember who made them (I think Mako), but they came out with an Accu-wedge type device that people say fit low shelf receivers without modification to the wedge (never tried that one myself though, been happy with the O-rings).

I almost forgot, if you do buy a pack of O-rings don't give out all the spare rings as the ring will not last forever. I think the lower receiver digs into it slightly causing them to snap after you break down your rifle a handful of times. But for how cheap they are it is still a great solution (I'm going to try size #6 next to see if that gives it a little more life).

Thanks for the o-ring suggestion guys. I will give that a try. I sure am glad I picked this rifle up when I did. It looks like I was about a day away from them all being gone. I mean gone EVERYWHERE. I just wish I had grabbed about a dozen more 30 round magazines while they were still on the shelf.

Ok, wiggled mine yesterday morning and no play at all. Of course, it hasn't been shot yet either. Hopefully by Friday I'll at least have it sighted in at the local indoor 25-yard range......

My sport was pretty tight. When I swapped out the upper receiver to a spikes receiver( I wanted FA and dust cover) I noticed there was a bit more play. I'll try the o ring
