I was missing an ole' friend today who used to play in Nashville, I don't know if her music is as universal, but she was good friends with someone you might all know. Kind regards:

She used to tell me stories about her friendship with Loretta--a nicer person I reckon would be hard to find. :)

Loretta and Conway recorded some great songs.

I like Loretta Lynn, and have been to her ranch for motorcycle ranches, but if I hear Coal Miner's Daughter one more time, I'm gonna look for a window to jump out of.

I understand, Greg. It's just that to me, it's genuine music. Not prepackaged. Not demographically tested. Not marketed solely based on looks and chart ratings. To me, it's real music and I am thankful for someone like her sharing her life with us in music.

I love the rest of her music. That one has just been WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY overplayed on the radio my entire life.

The Pill, One's on the Way, Fist City etc. This is some good stuff.

Her sister is quite talented as well.

Her fan club prez used to live in Topeka.
According to some of my relatives who lived there at the time,
Loretta always stopped to visit that lady anytime she came through Kansas.

Ernest Tubb had a lot to do with her early success. He heard her at the Grand Ole Opry and invited her to sing informally at the Ernest Tubb Record Store.

From what I've read, those late night impromptu sessions were terrific shows.

I love the old style of country music, the new stuff not so much for the most part.

I saw Loretta at the Ryman last year. She sounded great. And I agree new country is a bunch of too pretty Pop singers .Male and female.

Met her a couple of times and she was a gracious lady as well as a great performer. Sat down and had a drink with ol Conway 3 or 4 times. Talking with him he seemed to have a pretty good sense of humor oh and an eye for the ladies...Not that they weren't rolling their eyes at him or anything. That was back when they were entertainers...as well as stars. Country music ain't what it used to be...and neither are the singers. JMO YMMV of course

I grew up when singers were singers.......................
Perry, Toney, Frank, Mathis and all the CW of course.........
I grew up with Kay Star but most are too young to remember her.

The new kids can't hold a note over 12 seconds or a phrase with over twelve words and the music is usually very loud to hide their bad notes.

Most of us do not have a working phonograph or reel to reel tape machine any more........ 8 track or cassettes..... but there is , Time life CD's to help me along now.

Just watched the voice on tv last night..............
I can wait another 3 months.

Coal Miner's Daughter, by the way, is an excellent movie, too. Sissy Spacek and Tommy Lee Jones, if I recall correctly.

Levon Helm, the actor who played Lorretie's daddy in the movie, is an awesome bluegrass musician. He and Sissy did concerts for a while. There music together was really good. Lots of video on YouTube.

Mr. Helm passed away nearly four years ago. Before the bluegrass, he was part of the legendary rock band "The Band".

I never cared for Conway Twitty...

I never cared for Conway Twitty and I'm a bit of a snob. BUT, I thought that the duets they did were superlative and gave me more appreciation for Conway himself.

Loretta Lynne is like Dolly Parton. There's no mistaking that you've got the real deal in country music.

The equivalent.....

It's the equivalent of "Hotel California" in the rock/pop world. You think, Good Lord, they do so many songs that are SO much better.
