Barry Cryer, comic writer and comic genius in his own right passed this week. He had a magnificent resonant voice, perfect for radio, and the comic gift of dead on timing. He wrote material for just about very major comedian in the UK from the 60s onwards. The simplicity of his material is summed up by his favorite joke shown at the end of this obituary.

RIP, Barry, and thanks for all the laughs.

A brilliantly funny and clever wit that I admired. Actually, mum called me earlier about this as she is a true fan of his work.

I wish I could have been locked in a pub with him for a day.🇬🇧

Another British comedy writer that I admire, Marriott Edgar, died before I was born. His poems, books and radio scripts are all beyond clever and I have used his works for inspiration many times.

Laughter truly is the best medicine.
