I have wanted to start a thread trying to reunite wayward grips for a long time now. Like so many collecters I have a number of older guns with the grips that dont number to the gun that are wearing them. I know the chances are slim that an original grip will be found, but I feel it is worth a chance. I would like to hear from the members if they feel such a thread would be worth the time. I am suggesting posting the serial number of the grips a member has that does not match his gun, in hopes of a fellow member actually owning such a gun. I will start off by giving a serial number of a diamond N frame grip that does not number to the model 27 that wears it. The serial number on the grip is 190461. Of course I am hoping someone will post a grip with the serial number of the gun I own as well. Any thoughts on this thread?

I am especially interested in find a set of grips that accidentally got attached to the wrong gun, then that gun was sold. Here is a real shot in the dark, I am looking for the purchaser of a model 28 that had been converted to a 44 special. It was sold about 15 years ago in Colorado or northern New Mexico. The grips for it belonged to a 1950 Target 44 Special that was being worked on in my den. The owner of the model 1950 is an elderly man that has had the gun since @1952 and cherished this gun. When he found out the grips were mixed up with the model 58 conversion, his heart just sank. Would really like to find that gun and get those grips exchanged. I feel guilty as it happened in my care.
I agree, I posted the same wish a month or so back. also could include boxes. i think only people who are looking would post on a data site. a dealer could have too many to list. if your grip or box was matched the dealers price could double what he may want in some instances. i would pay a premium on most of my guns. i think box collecting could jump in interest. the dealer could type in a number and look for hits...someday

OK, I'll jump in. I have a set for a K Frame, SB. These are Magna's, PC (Rounded bottoms), Non-Diamond, Blued Washers and Stainless Steel Screw, Numbered 111186. They are walnut and could use a light cleaning and refinishing. Points are a little flat on both grips and the checkereing on the left grip has a small chip missing (Approx 1/16" x 1/8") at the bottom front of the checkering. Right grip has a small 1/16" x 1/8" sliver missing from the horn. These grips still show well. First person to post a picture of a SB K Frame with matching serial number gets them free.

Opps, just noticed that the outside border of the right grip is missing about a 3/4" sliver of wood.

If not, here's my Number 2 Belt Model presented to an officer during the Civil War. The serial number of the revolver is 22673, and the grips 22655.
I've gotten factory letters on the two numbers, and both were shipped to the same retailer within days of each other in March, 1864. There's no doubt that these ivories have been on the revolver "forever", but it would be interesting to find revolver number 22655 and see what grips are on it.
