Lost my Dad yesterday. Another of the Greatest Generation Gone. Updated post #54.

So sorry for your loss and we are poorer with each of those WWII vets lost.

I lost my WWII vet Dad ten years ago. He served in the Canadian Army in WWII and yet was given full honors by the local VFW at his funeral. His burial flag is in it's case along with the blank brass shot in his honor that day above me now.

On behalf of your Father, please accept my humble thanks and appreciation. He helped save the American way of life for both myself and my children. I had three uncles who were among "the greatest generation", only one survives, and I am thankful for each time I see or talk to him. My most sincere deepest regrets and sympathy. Best regards, Bob.

My sympathy and condolences to you and your family, Stu.

I am thankful that your dad lived a long life, and did so many things that made a difference. He sounds like a wonderful father, and a good man. Those two things alone are a beautiful testament to a life well-lived.

If we cannot do him honor while he's here to hear the praise,
Then at least let's give him homage at the ending of his days.
Perhaps just a simple headline in a paper that would say,
Our Country is in mourning, for a soldier died today.

Your dad sounds like a man of kind heart and great personal courage. That was a nice tribute to him and I'm sure he's smiling down with his approval. My prayers are going up for the family.

I lost my dad in 2009 so I can feel your pain. But even though I still miss him every day I also have a lot of memories of him and lots of pics too. His great grandchildren like to dig out his pic when they come over. He is out of his pain but he lives on in our hearts and minds.

God bless........

Update

Dear Forum Friends

We buried Dad this morning. We had representatives from the
Marine Corps League to perform a military ceremony along with
the religious one.

They played taps, and then folded the flag that draped his coffin.

I was doing alright throughout the ceremony until one of the Marines
kneeled in front of me and presented the flag to me in honor of my father
and his service to our country.
That is when I lost it.

We are back at my home, and all the company has left for today.

I just wanted to take a moment to update this post, and to
thank all of you for your prayers and wonderful words of comfort.

It is truly a tribute to this forum how so many people who mostly only
know each other from our posts can be there for each other and
comfort each other in their times of need.

Thank you again for all your kind words.
God Bless you all.

Stu

If the Army and the Navy ever look on Heaven's scenes
They will find the streets are guarded by United States Marines
He was called to duty,
take comfort in knowing that he will live forever in your heart, and that he has gone to join the Great Regiment of The Greatest Generation ever known.
OOOOOORAHHHH!
