R.I.P. Boy did I hate dealing with drunk drivers, although I arrested as many as I could.

Back in the early '80's, when I was a rookie I was driving through CA on vacation and observed a CHP Traffic Officer contact a violator from the right side (away from passing traffic). I thought that was the smartest thing I ever saw and when I returned from vacation I started making right side contacts. Nothing is totally safe but I sure felt safer away from passing traffic.

A close friend of mine had first aid and trauma training , he was naturally good at it and his instructors suggested he continue his training ,suggesting he do some ambulance "ride alongs"
He was not prepared for what he encountered
He failed as a medic and was told he would never be on another "ride along"
He was on scene where a family was hit by a drunk driver , I believe a child had been killed
The drunk driver seemed like he didn't care about the people he'd hit , instead complaining about his minor injury
My friend attacked him , police had to pull him off
My friend was not charged , but was made to understand to was not medic material
It takes a special breed
