I lost my hunting partner and best friend today. Took him to the vet and left him. The vet couldn't do anything. 11 year old boy, riding on my property, ran over him while he was chasing a hog. He was coming 6 and a Corgi cross. The bike shattered his spine. I bottle fed him from 2 days old.

I had told the 11 year old to stay off the property.

Lord Help me, I am gonna miss my boy

I am very sorry for your loss of your pet. They are good friends and constant companions. He will be sorely missed I know. Here is a poem that I take comfort in.

Condolences. Losing your furry friend is hard. God Speed to him & prayers to your & your family.

I'm sure that was heartbreaking. Dogs are special people, and losing one, particularly through an accident, is never easy. My sincere condolences.

John

You have my sympathy, Slim. I know the pain of losing a friend who, unlike humans, gives absolute, unquestioning love and loyalty. I've said this to others on the forum who've been through this, but I'll say it again: if there isn't a place in heaven for your buddy and the pets I've lost, I have no desire to go there.

So sorry to hear this. 11 year old needs more than a verbal trespass warning for his actions.

I too am sorry about your loss. Pets really are the best. A friend of mine passed this along to me several years back after we laid one of our dogs to rest:

The Rainbow Bridge

By the edge of a woods, at the foot of a hill,
Is a lush, green meadow where time stands still.
Where the friends of man and woman do run,
When their time on earth is over and done.

For here, between this world and the next,
Is a place where each beloved creature finds rest.
On this golden land, they wait and they play,
Till the Rainbow Bridge they cross over one day.

No more do they suffer, in pain or in sadness,
For here they are whole, their lives filled with gladness.
Their limbs are restored, their health renewed,
Their bodies have healed, with strength imbued.

They romp through the grass, without even a care,
Until one day they start, and sniff at the air.
All ears prick forward, eyes dart front and back,
Then all of a sudden, one breaks from the pack.

For just at that instant, their eyes have met;
Together again, both person and pet.
So they run to each other, these friends from long past,
The time of their parting is over at last.

The sadness they felt while they were apart,
Has turned into joy once more in each heart.
They embrace with a love that will last forever,
And then, side-by-side, they cross over… together.

Sorry for the loss of your furry friend. They are indeed like family. Prayers sent.

My condolences, losing a furry buddy is probably the toughest thing I have ever had to go through too. Keep your chin up, grab a cold one, and giggle about the times he made you mad (it will bring a smile to your face now looking back).

Very sorry for your loss, but you let him take that last journey alone?? :( I just couldn't bring myself to do that when I lost my three girls. Nor will Sarah make that last journey alone if I out live Her. :(

Bad deal

Sorry for your loss, keep the faith, find another friend, they won't be the same but great all the same.
Be well

J. R.: I am pretty sure he stayed to the end. I've had to; there is no other choice. The worst time I ever had of it was when I was not home when the boys died 3 1/2 years ago. No closure, and I still ain't right.

CS: I am sorry for your loss. I can tell you that the "parents" of that child would hear from me, and nothing polite or pleasant. I have had trouble with a trespasser or two of that age, and my admonition to the parents who stood up for the little brats would have peeled the paint of a battleship. (Crybabies called the cops, and were NOT happy when the cops told them in essence to shut up, keep their kids away from my property, and leave me alone cuz I was right.)

SORRY TO HEAR THAT

Hard times, Slim. I miss all the friends that have
gone ahead. They're like family, each seperate and
with their own personalities.

My deepest condolences Slim.
Our dogs give us so much unconditional Love
and Affection they are sorely missed when they
pass on. Take comfort in knowing you will see
him, and he will walk by your side once again
when you too go to the next life.

Chuck

The best thing you can do is remember your friend as he was and carry on.
He will love you forever, and hopefully he'll be there to guide you when it's your turn to take the last walk.

I'm sorry, too, for the loss of your boy, Slim. I know it hurts. You did the right thing when you had no choice, and when your boy couldn't decide that for himself. You're a good man for being humane so that he wouldn't suffer any more. Prayers for you while you're dealing with this.

I am so sorry for your loss of your friend. I too lost a friend named Bud. He was a 12 year old Irish Setter. We used to hunt together and hunted just about anything. All I had to do was show him a track and he would find it no matter how long it would take. He died one night from complications from a surgery. I held him until he passed.
Now I have new friends who are just as special. Buster, Chad, and a new pup I found on the road. I know you are hurting but go to a shelter soon and look at the dogs who desperately need a home. One look into their eyes will melt your heart.

Dave,

That is a an awful thing to have to go through....I would not be all-together well if it were me. Dealing with the neighbors is going to be a long term affair, may even be best left alone - build a better fence and keep them out. If he was trespassing while hunting, that very well could earn the parents a visit from the TX Game Warden....let me know if you need a good contact there around the Bexar/Wilson county line.

Take care bud.

Sorry about your buddy, I wish I had better words to say but will end with--prayers sent for the great companion.
