Since winter was a veritable "No Show" after January we have been enjoying some of the finest bike riding conditions ever seen. Most days in the mid 80's ever since the beginning of February and very little rain.
My bride and I took off this morning for a cruise down some of our favorite Tucson roads. This pic was taken from up on "A" mountain (as in U of A and it is really just a foothill with a very large white "A" on it), overlooking downtown Tucson. That is Mt Lemon (9,200') in the background but the snow has been gone for quite a while:
After coming down off of the "mountain" we looped west and north out through Saguaro National Park returning through Picture Rocks.
Last Saturday we rode up to Bike Fest 2016 in Glendale (256 miles roundtrip - northwest of Phoenix), and had a blast. Thousands of bikes, bikers and all things bike related. Picked up a nice leather vest, {complete with concealed carry pockets}, and a couple of patches - my favorite being "Are we gonna ride or d#@% around all day?
Another highlight, we got to ride through the bar. They set up barricades down the center of the Saloon tent and you can ride through the center to the hoots and high fives of those inside. We left too early for the crowd to have settled in but it was still a kick in the a**. No wheelies or burn outs were permitted but you can make all the noise (the sound of freedom), you want.
Tomorrow I am riding out to Roosevelt Lake to meet my buddy at the Windy Hill campground for a guys night out. Might be a few brewskis around the fire and more than few tall tales as we have not seen each other for a few months. The ride is spectacular with lots of twisties winding through the mountains and past some of the biggest copper mines in Arizona.
Yes, summer is on its way and it will be getting seriously warm soon but we just leave earlier in the day and head to higher elevations to beat the heat. I hope my brothers back in cold country get an early spring and can get out on the roads soon. Be safe guys!
