LOUDEST HAND GUN

I've shot the Blackhawk in .30 carbine, while wearing hearing protection of course. I did not perceive it to be any louder than the .357 Magnum and not as loud as the .41 and .44 Magnums. The freedom Arms .454 with 4 3/4" barrel using factory 300 grain ammo (1585 FPS in my gun) seems much louder to me.

Whoever created the .50 BMG handgun might very well hold the record for loud.......

In conventional handguns a .357 Maximum in a revolver has to be heard to be appreciated!

In unconventional handguns the .458 Win Magnum fired in a Competitor pistol is without a doubt the loudest handgun I have ever fired or been around! Had both plugs and good muffs on and it was super bad!

Colt .45 Government with a muzzle brake. Been asked at the indoor range "what the h**l are you shooting?". Louder than my m29 classic , though the 44 is much more violent.

My S&W 629-6 PORTED 3" barrel 150th anniversary edition revolver. I can't imagine a louder hand gun?

My Ruger SBH with Rem UMC 180 gr. SJSP (1600 + fps). Muzzle blast so bad I can use it for a leaf blower at our log pile range. I wear earplugs and muffs when I shoot it. It does make everything else I have a lot more pleasant to shoot.

Come to think of it, the BSA in .30-06 with a BESA muzzle brake is LOUD!

I don't think BSA makes rifles any longer. But UK gun laws are probably more to blame than the muzzle brake slots.

My vote, hands down, goes to the Ruger Black Hawk in .30 carbine:eek: Mind blowing noise !!:D:D

Interesting. I had a Blackhawk in 30 carbine. Don't recall it's report being all that severe, but it has been a while.
These days, first place is a tie between two shooting buddies of mine. One has a 454 Casull, the other a 50cal Desert Eagle. Both shake the dust out of the ceiling tiles as well as loosen the shooter's fillings.

I agree the Ruger Blackhawk in 30 M1 Carbine might be the worst, but a close second would be a .32/20 rifle load fired in a 4" M&P. Did that one time - it made my ears ring for a week!

  1. My 4" Smith 29-2 - With Winchester White Box 240gr. Magnums, it's breathtakingly loud.
  2. .45acp Hi Point with a muzzle brake - my .44 Magnum is just a HAIR louder

I have an AMT Automag in 30 cal carbine that's really loud. The only thing that comes close in my S&W in 22 Remington Jet. Firing either will shut the range down as everyone else turns to stare.

In a handgun I go the Ruger 30 carbine. Earsplitting!

I once tried punching holes in a 55 gallon drum with a 357 and got a little to far in the barrel very memorable and extremely painful.

I once got to pull the tigers tail on a 155 self propelled two times. So loud it is beyond description but it did not hurt. It did seem to suck all the air out of you. WOW
