My SIL has a new .40 S&W and bought the components, dies & etc. to begin reloading for it. Being curious, I thought it might be good to check for function before we load a bunch of them up. I got my daughter to shoot this video so I could hold the flashlight.

The first shot is a Winchester white box, followed by a 180 gr handload. I used SR 4756 with the Berry's 180 gr plated bullet. Notice the difference in muzzle flash and you'll see another reason I like SR 4756. I think you just need to click on the image to view.

I saw the same thing with my .45 ACP's a long time ago. I keep a few cans of 4756 around. It's also very clean burning for me.

Try Power Pistol for the opposite reaction... That stuff would come close to working as a camera flash when used with .40SW...

Paul, What is he shooting them in?

I loaded for a Glock with those components and never had a problem with bulged cases or such.

I chose the powder for two reasons. #1: Pressure. One of the highest velocities with a very low pressure for the cartridge.
#2: Availability. I have a 4lb jug of SR4756 here! :)

If you have a chance, Longshot is another powder that will work well in unsupported chambers. Pressure is as low, velocity is higher.

Good video too!

He was using some sort of Glock, since that's what he's using as a duty weapon.

I loaded 6.5 gr of SR 4756, which is slightly less than a maximum load according to Lee. We might get a chance to clock them today, if we don't eat too much!

I used a load of 6.6gr in my Glock 22. The bullets were Berry's 180gr Plated Hollow Point and they gave me right at 1000fps, just a tad less at chrono distance, 980ish if I remember correctly.
